ANCHORAGE, Alaska -- A state legislative panel has concluded that Sarah Palin abused her power in the firing of the state's public safety commissioner.

The findings were released after lawmakers emerged Friday from a private session in Anchorage where they spent more than six hours discussing a politically charged ethics report into the firing by Gov. Palin.

There was nothing to be gained, there was no personal self interest advanced, there was no benefit to be had. If Wooten had been fired that would have been the end result of those efforts.

Have you read the reports of the investigations into Trooper Wooten?

I have read some of them yes. I do not know if I have read all of them. IT has been a while since I read them though.

As a PS to my other reply. Do you think Branchflower was correct in his findings? If so, why and how can his opinion be made to mesh with the actual Statute vs his interpretation of the Statute? I ask this with no disrespect intended.

That was my thought also. I don’t think that is a minor point either.

Hey Chieftain how have you been and how are the boys? I thought that guy was a political appointee, which means she could have fired him if he tied his shoes wrong. He was in subordinate and didn't follow instructions and was canned b/c of that.

I sure as hell would not have let sleeping dogs lie and neither would you or any of the idiots on this legislative panel.

You bet!

Fox News, and I'm listening to it in the background, was saying about 5 minutes ago, that the actual problem they had -- And I find this terribly hard to believe -- is that Sarah did NOT HAVE HER HUSBAND IN CHECK.

I've heard the same thing.

Government should be more responsive to all citizens...then there would be little difference in response to prominent ones.

Obama is black racist and an apprentice of Jeremiah Wright. Based on this alone he is going to lose the elections.

I think your analysis of bambi is absolutely correct, but in the end a majority of this country will vote their pocket book and not whats best for the country. People are getting their 401K statements and seeing on the growth side a 20-30% reduction and that doesn't reflect Oct.

Everyone is nervous about the economy (as they should be) and McCain has done nothing to show how different he is from Obama. Yes McCain's policies would do the best for everyone and bambi's would deepen the recession and expand Govt. control over our lives, but they both voted for the bailout which is only prolonging the problem.

The set up of Gov. Palin was in the works for a long time and was a fall back if the race was still close. The Rats know the details will be lost behind the headlines.

The only parts that happened after becoming governor were the firing of Monegan and Todd Palin's continued pursuit of a way to get his b-i-l fired as a trooper.

Have we really lost so much common sense that we think it's a crime for a man to pursue his b-i-l after threats to his sister and abuse of his nephew. If anything Gov. Palin has shown incredible restraint and respect for her position/authority.

I agree, but I think you are missing the mark.

Mr. Palin pursued this and Gov. Palin is being condemned because she couldn't control him. I have been married for 23 yrs. I realized a long time ago if I tell my wife not to do something and she really wants to she will find a way to do it. Also, putting myself in Mr. Palin's position I would have done the same thing. If one of my nephews had been abused (tasering a 10 yr. old) at the minimum I would want the thug to lose his job.

He wasn't found in violation.

So you're saying that Governor Palin is a weak governor who couldn't have figured out a way to execute her duties? Sorry, but that's not the whole problem...the decision was also based on the understanding that it was Gov. Palin doing the pressuring through intermediaries, and if not, she at least knew about it and didn't prevent it via the means at her disposal.

Whether the finding was right or wrong, I can't say...we don't have all the evidence, as some is still sealed and Governor Palin chose not to participate and the Attorney General's office did not cooperate by sending e-mail traffic. But I'm just saying what the report indicated.

(But with what I know, I think she and the First Gentleman went a bit far into that fuzzy gray area, and I wish she had taken on the problem at its root, but I don't think the finding should have stated that she had violated the statute. I do agree with the report's legislative suggestions in general--a more open procedure of disciplinary actions, allowing victims more information regarding status, etc.)

BTW, do you know the circumstances of the tazering?

From finding 1:

...Governor Sarah Palin abused her power ...

From finding 2:

...Governor Palin’s firing of Commissioner Monegan was a proper and lawful exercise of her constitutional and statutory authority ...

I think I see the problem here, she "abused her power" through a "proper and lawful exercise" of it.

The authors of these findings should be removed from office for failure of their basic intellectual faculties. Any newsies that focus on finding 1 in lieu of the contrast with finding 2 should be subject to a root canal AND IRS audit - if they are that stupid or craven then they have undoubtedly cheated on their taxes - and dentists need to make a living, too.

Clear evidence that the whole investigation was designed as a partisan attack, in order to make something up to smear Sarah.

Her enemies, the Dems and Repubs she threw out of office, ganged up on her.

Proof positive that she’s good for America!

She unlawfully abused power but she didn’t break the law...any one think this is a logical statement?

Not sure which character it was but one of the members of the Hollis French Obamathon Committee that voted for this idiocy had to phone in his vote from Anchorage because he was busy being indicted for fraud.
