ANCHORAGE, Alaska -- A state legislative panel has concluded that Sarah Palin abused her power in the firing of the state's public safety commissioner.

The findings were released after lawmakers emerged Friday from a private session in Anchorage where they spent more than six hours discussing a politically charged ethics report into the firing by Gov. Palin.

I agree with you, PM. (a)(3) also seems to absolve Palin.

(3) standards of ethical conduct for members of the executive branch need to distinguish between those minor and inconsequential conflicts that are unavoidable in a free society, and those conflicts of interests that are substantial and material.

I'd say that defending your family against tazers and death threats do not constitute serious conflicts against Alaska that are substantial and maerial.

I don't think Palin did anything wrong.

Folks, chill. This is not going to take down Team McCain.

Gov. Palin has the bully pulpit, and she’ll have the ear of the nation in explaining this. I suspect her answers have been ready for some time, and will address what looks to me to be a twisting, if not outright betraying, the intent of the statute.

There is a clause saying that public officers retain the right to demand satisfaction for personal matters. An Ethics violation would be for personal profit from a lobbyist or something along those lines, in other words using the office to do a favor for a third party.

WIOD in Miami just said “unlawful” as I was reading the report.

Well, that's what the report says.

Clauses 1 and 2. The panel is wrong.

I think you're mixing this up with the firing of Commissioner Monegan.

No I'm not. You didn't read my post very carefully. I don't think you read the statute very carefully either. The idiot she fired was Monegan. I hope to God Sarah Palin is STILL trying to get Wooten fired. He needs to be fired.

Palin offered Monegan another job, he declined.....call it a firing if you like, but she wanted to move him to another job. Her choice. His choice.

Agreed.

I suspect the police union probably has a big giant part of this problem..the untouchability and lack of accountability of the trooper.

What do you think about the legislative suggestions?

Please tell me what the personal or financial benefits were that Governor Palin would have gained had Wooten been fired because she asked the status of the investigation and expressed her concerns over his fitness for his job?

All the explanation does is repeat accounts of the meetings and phone calls Palin made seeking information and expressing her objections to Wooten remaining a State Trooper.

I find it rather odd that actions she took before her election as Governor are being cited as reasons for finding her in violation of Alaska’s ethics’ law.

Not once does the report say (unless I missed it) that Governor Palin stood to benefit in anyway if Wooten was fired.

I sure as hell would not have let sleeping dogs lie and neither would you or any of the idiots on this legislative panel.

I agree. As I have said, Wooten should not be Trooper Wooten, and he should be rotting in a cell.

What in the heck does the firing of Commissioner Monegan have to do with the statute?

I understand it just requires an effort. But again that is assuming that the effort was in order to gain a supposed benefit. Which I just do not see.
To me a personal or financial benefit would be something tangible. Say a large deposit in an offshore account or someone altering a unfavorable report to make it a favorable one. “ Why yes Governor you were found in a hotel room with a crack whore but my report will say you were part of the undercover task force on drug crimes and prostitution”. You get the idea.

“The legislature reaffirms that each public officer holds office as a public trust, and any effort to benefit a personal or financial interest through official action is a violation of that trust.”

Is this the legislative comment you mean or is there another? (If another, can you give me a link? Thanks.)

Fox News, and I'm listening to it in the background, was saying about 5 minutes ago, that the actual problem they had -- And I find this terribly hard to believe -- is that Sarah did NOT HAVE HER HUSBAND IN CHECK.

Apparently, some thought he overused his connection to her to continue to pursue the brother-in-law.

Now, (1) Was Todd Palin elected to anything?, and (2) What if she did tell him, and Todd told Sarah to take a hike?

That;s why they kicked out Lieberman. On Domsetic policy he has zero disagteement with them, but he's sick of their corruption.

What in the heck does the firing of Commissioner Monegan have to do with the statute?

IIRC Monegan had the power to fire Wooten and Palin apparently petitioned for him to be fired. IIRC that is what the ethics violation is based upon, is it not? The panel apparently determined that Palin didn't fire Monegan because he didn't fire Wooten, but that she violated the ethics laws by asking Monegan to do it.

BTW, what is your background in the law?
