I agree with you. I was responding to a FReeper, not McCain. I think the old lady sounded dumb, her comment was ill-conceived and inappropriate. I think she was probably reaching for “Muslim” rather than “Arab,” but it still shouldn’t have been said.

McCain was playing some immediate damage control. What choice did he have? On another thread people are saying he’s “surrendered” b/c he didn’t say, “Damn right he is! Down with the Arab!”

Political expediency trumps “tough talk” every day of the week. FReepers need to understand it, live with it, and work with it.

Don’t “sumbitch” the system, find a way to make it work to your advantage.

“...a decent family man with whom I happen to have some disagreements.”

Did he actually say that?

The media is playing word games with their criticism of the Mc Cain Palin campaign. They are itching to brand them as racists. Mc Cain is playing it cool to keep them from having anything to trumpet.

Is it too late to put Sarah at the top of the ticket? Please!!

No, but it won't happen unless they manage to finally bait McCain enough to set off his temper, and his heart. Even then, the RNC would probably keep Palin as VP, and pick another "moderate" for President.

snarkytart: “I live in a deeply blue state, so my vote is irrelevant.”

Your vote isn’t irrelevant, even in a blue state. If McCain wins, we want him to win by both popular and electoral vote. We need the biggest margin possible, because the left will fight, lie, sue, and do whatever possible to steal the election. Also, I’m pretty sure some states now award their electoral votes to whoever gets the most popular votes nationally.

Moderates are useless to worry about, it's the UNDECIDED voters who matter, and the reason Obama can't quite put it away is because there is this trust issue. OBAMA even knows it. He goes to PA and says, “They'll say my name is weird, or I'm a radical......blah blah blah”
Even HE knows people aren't sure about him.
McCain just gave the unsure some solace in voting for someone they were a little hesitant to vote for in November. The undecided most likely would have chosen McCain as the safe choice in the end. Now? After this sound bite is played all over the media? The unsure/undecided have no reason to vote against Obama.

I’m not voting for McCain, but I respect him more for this. Knuckle-dragging discourse should have no place in these campaigns. We are men not monkeys.

Now imagine if McCain said what you just said....using a comparison of knuckle-dragging/men/monkeys....wow...who are you voting for?

Do I have some concerns that Obama is a "scary" piece of scum? Honestly yes. However, there is nothing remotely on the record that is credible that proves Obama doesn't care for his wife and kids. In fact I have no doubt that he truly loves his partner Marxist queen :)

It played well on the news, but not to his supporters—obviously, judging by the reaction on FR and at the town hall meeting.

I’m curious, though, what did FReepers expect him to say to the “Arab” comment?

Unlike Dole who resigned his Senate seat to run for President, McCain isn’t willing to risk his Washington career to win the job. He is positioned to return to the club atmosphere of the Senate and the Sunday morning talk show circuit. To be an elder statesman in the Senate and the Republican voice of moderation on the talk shows, he has to play by the rules of political correctness. Our founding fathers put everything on the line — their lives, their fortunes, and their careers. Even though the Republic is in great peril, McCain’s ego is so large, he can’t risk his Washington status for the sake of the country. Can a man like this truly be viewed as a patriot?

Me too.

With tears in my eyes, I just went outside and took my McCain sign out of the ground. and I feel extreme fear for this country.

What in the hell was he thinking ? I have been praying for he and Sarah everyday. I have a McCain sign, bumper stickers, etc. And he just took away my hope. He just left Sarah and the rest of us out to dry. He just went along with the MSM stereotype that we are stupid hicks and racists. It hurts. After working so hard and praying so hard. This CUTS DEEP.
