Despite championing immigration reform in 2007, John McCain is poised to lose the Hispanic vote by a landslide margin that is well below President George W. Bush's 2004 performance.
Polls show Obama winning the broadest support from Latino voters of any Democrat in a decade, while McCain is struggling to reach 30 percent, closer to Senator Bob Dole's dismal 1996 result than to Bush's historic 40% four years ago.
McCain seems to have wound up with the worst of both worlds: He appears to be getting no credit from Latino voters for his past support for immigration reform, while carrying the baggage of other Republicans' hostility to illegal immigration.

N-i-c-e take.
America is built on one nation, indivisible. I for one am sick and tired of these professional hyphenates. They calculatedly seek to divide and conquer......they refuse to assimilate into the melting pot.
Hyphenates want special privileges and perks, and they want the rest of us to subsidize them.
No thank you. I say act like an American, or GTH out of my country.
Don't feel alone. Conservatives often feel the same way.
Heaven forbid!!!! What a revolting development.
If McCain/Palin win, we need to march on one newspaper at a time until they close their doors. I’m sick of this and I’m not going to take it anymore.
Hoisted on his own petard, and taking us down with him.
Latinos do have a Christian orientation in general and do not like the rabid abortion stance of the Democrat Party. The fact is that many Latinos are here, many are legally here and have lived in this country all their lives, many are here illegally. There is no way that they can all be rounded up and deported. If we could help them understand that we aren’t against legal immigration; if their own families that are here and who are harboring them would just encourage and help them go back and return by legal channels it would be easier on them as well as on the authorities.
Be sure that if BO is elected, he will do everything in his power to assure that the Latino voting bloc, like the black voting bloc is Democrat for a hundred years or more. The Democrat Party gains control of people by appealing to their baser attributes rather than in building up their talents and incentive. - I love everyone and wish for everybody to have good, to have good paying jobs and education. I don’t relish anyone’s adult child dying of thirst and dehydration in the desert trying to come here to work (and they do work) and earn a living. Our ancestors were mostly immigrants at one time, too. There are criminals and bad people in every race and group of people, and there are many decent Latino people.
This sounds like another bullshit poll to me.All of freerepublic is full of polls saying how bad we are doing.
I thought blacks didn’t like latinos and now all of a sudden they love them. This is a big push to make us believe we are losing,Sounds like bullshit to me.

This insanity presages the Third World hellholes they envision being erected on US soil. Illegals are receiving orders from Third World federales to takeback the SW (reconquista) by undermining the US election system.
Illiterate natives are way out of their element here.... attempting to circumnavigate a worldclass superpower, like America. The stupid invaders are ill-equipped to exist under US democracy--within a worldclass superpower which operates under the rule of law.
Only problem is that vote-crazed politicians are mesmerized by the numbers, and are sucking up to illegals like there was no tomorrow. Pandering pols will never "get it."
no one is whining or asking anyone to pander. I am just speaking truth when I say, the GOP does not care to consider the Hispanic vote. Partly because across the country there is not an understanding of legal and illegal, and when we talk about it we must address boarder issues and no one wants to address that. Especially now!
This is what i mean about being offensive, do you know what you just said is highly offensive. I am by heritage Mexican American. Both of my parents are 100% Mexican, raised in America. My father served this country in two wars. I am an officer and have served my country for over 12 years. You have no idea what you are saying. If you live in a boarder town, you may no there are illegal Mexicans, but their are some of us who have family who live in Mexico. They come over to America and put lots of Money into the economy. My family is from Monterrey, they spend money and enjoy America, but when they are here they are treated like a Messican...yup they have heard it all. Speak English...if you want to be in America...
You really have no idea how cruel people can be. My family is very loving and loved George Bush, they loved Hillary Clinton and they Love America..I dont get it.
I'm white (mostly Irish)
If you and I were standing next to each other at a campaign event, in what way am I to understand that you feel less welcome than myself based solely upon your Spanish heritage....and in what way can you reasonably justify your implication that you are entitled to special recognition.
Oh geez, I never said I was entitled....I simply was stating a fact, that his election and in others the GOP will not touch the Hispanic vote. Why because there is not a distinction between lega and illegal...and guess what if they want to address that...they would also have to talk about Immigration....Have you heard anyone talk about that!
Of course not...So they drop the Latino, Hispanic vote because they do not want to every get near that subject.
so they ignore
correction I didnt mean no distinction, I meant people group us all in one.
Why did you. As for the ones who vote for Obama, screw them. It's about time for actual Americans to realize their in a war against hostile tribes.
I didn't claim that you did say it, but again, your post certainly implied it, as does your response here to me. Once you classify and identify yourself into a group, distinct form others, it's hard to untangle that premise from anything else that follows, specially if they are grounded in complaints.
This identity logic has got to end, because it's tearing this country apart. What I'm about to say may no be very popular, but I'm gonna say it anyway. A Nation can only have one dominant culture, or it is doomed. Period. Previous generations of immigrants understood this, but sadly, such is not the case with most immigrants today.
Let me say this the day when my daughter can go to school and not be called a wetback....or Messican...hear me
my daughter went to school, she is a beautiful latino looking girl, she plays on the tennis team , during practice the ball went over the fence.....a kid yelled let
p get it she is used to jumping fences! They all laughed.
I told the counselors and teachers and they told me, to lighten up!
Yea! we are all Americans.
And the perception is that this lack of distinction...between legal and illegal...is found in the minority communities. Candidates are well aware that addressing this violation of law and sovereignty, among all the other problems it generates, is treated as a blood libel, and that doesn't help matters at all, since it complicates the political process, the understanding and execution of our laws, and not least of which, our social structure.
Again, we need to get past this crap or we're doomed...
Oddly enough, this bit of wit may ring truer than you think. There's probably many, many people on this forum, myself included, who had a miserable time in school simply because someone didn't like your face.
Life goes on though...
