Why I Still Think McCain Will Win
Pajamas Media ^ | October 9, 2008 | Roger Kimball

The question I have most often been asked the past few weeks is whether I stand by my prediction that John McCain would win in November. Way back in ancient times, that is, toward the end of August, 2008, I said that “Personally, I think John McCain is going to win, and I’m not talking about a hanging-chad squeakeroo. No, I think it will be a blow-out for McCain.” Interlocutors both anxious and gleeful have lined up to ask: Do I continue, after all we’ve been through these past weeks–the economy, the Palin-Katie Couric train wreck, the lackluster second debate, the economy, the economy, the economy–do I still believe that McCain has any chance of winning, let alone winning by a landslide?

I admit that my confidence has been dented. But it has by no means evaporated. ...

Dow below 8900. The financial system is in a state of total collapse. Doesn’t seem good for Mac.

He could be right, but I’m still stocking up on ammo.

Yep and you think that majority of voters believe that Jeremiah Wright apprentice is going to fix everything?

Am I the only one who finds it ironic that one of the characters most responsible for the mess is the same one who was taking credit for the bailout passage last week? Fortunately, Mac brought up this very point today in a Wisconsin rally.

Depends, if McCain not only takes the gloves off vis a vis Fannie’s Democrat Capitol Hill lovers, but also hits on some issues like Victory in Iraq and Obama’s terrible judgment.

IMO, jettisoning the idea of victory in Iraq and the War on Terror is a huge weakness in the Obama Campaign.

McCain is going to win going away, the checkmate move was Sarah Palin.

What you’re NOT hearing from the MSM P.R. Department for Obama.

Obama is losing chunks of his base, he is not coming close to the numbers enjoyed by Gore and Kerry who both lost. If McCain was losing the same percentage of his base it would be headline news EVERY DAY.

We have a historically significant candidate for VP in Sarah Palin, do you see ANY stories of her impact in the female vote?? If Hillary was the VP candidate we would see constant updates of how many more women are going to vote for the Dem ticket because there is a WOMAN on the ticket. I can only conclude that Sarah Palin is scuttling the female vote or we would have seen many stories about “Palin has NO IMPACT” on the female vote.

If there were large chunks of Republicans voting for Obama like the “PUMA” movement, (dems for McCain) you would see constant fawning media coverage and the leaders of the movement would be household names by now.

McCain can still possibly win by doing two things. GO after Obama with both barrells blazing on Ayers, Wright, Khalidi, Rezko, his “lost years”, his fake birth certificate, his infantacide, etc.

AND by pivoting to the right and supporting free market solutions for the economy, slashing of gov’t agencies, overturning R.v W., across the board tax cuts, and the prosecution of those responsible for the current mess.

This was all set up by Cloward-Piven Strategy with ACORN, Obama, Soros, Ayeras, et al. They infected Fannie & Freddie then sent the virus to all commercial and investment banks with Obama filing lawsuits to FORCE banks to make the loans.

They then busted out Fannie & Freddie - Obama’s cronies bailed then Soros and his hedge fund buddies picked off the companies one by one using shorting and buying credit default swaps (CDS). Both combined attacks were able to wipe companies out in days.

They are making tons of money wiping out the financial system to gain power.

Donate and volunteer.

You have much more optimism than I do. With a lackluster campaign set during the Panic of 2008, I don't see McCain pulling this one out.

Agua de Oro and Da Marshal: Do you guys really think McCain can still pull this off?

I hope so, but the election is about the market now.

The Market Meltdown of the past two weeks has made me pessimistic as opposed to before the daily crash!

Fortunately, Mac brought up this very point today in a Wisconsin rally.

Only weeks late! Where is the RNC on this? Where are the non-stop ads tying Obama, Reid, Pelosi, Dodd and Frank to the current financial situation!?!?

The RNC and the McCain camp are a joke (till date).

Way too early to call this one for the 0. He should be up by 10 points in the nationals with honest weighting. The GOP base is alight and there are the PUMAs. This thing ain’t close to over....

The economy is run into the ground Congress led by Democrats and things don’t look good for McCain?

I think somehow, somewhere, something is going to prevent those idiot leftists from voting for Obamamessiah.... somehow... somewhere.

(And I always keep buying ammo)
