Well, Rush would disagree about Brooks and others. He believes most conservatives change somewhat when they get on MSM programs, to please their new Liberal friends and get invited to all the press parties. I think he's right.
Most of the conservatives who have the strongest objections to Governor Palin participate regularly on MSM programs such as David Brooks, Kathleen Parker, and George Will. But you may be right that Brooks was never a conservative (and Rush may be wrong). He's only been on my radar for the past several years.

I literally burst out laughing when I read that McCain and Obama were the two best candidates we’ve had in a long time, goodness gracious, how stupid, and Palin a Cancer, that guy is nutz and has exposed himself as a real liberal (if he claims to be a conservative, not sure on that)

Intellectualism is not eating brie and having a corncob up one’s rectum, as many Ivy League types like to believe.
This country (and FR) is full of what those Ivy Leaguers call “every day Americans” (with derision) that not only have higher cognitive powers than them, but have an invaluable sense of right and wrong.

While Brooks may admire Romney's "clarity of mind" (and who doesn't?), he is no friend of Mitt Romney. In fact, Brooks even slammed Mitt's highly praised Faith in America speech for not being inconclusive enough of the non-religious and atheists!
I guess the Romney haters, always so anxious to spin things without being fully informed, missed all of these David Brooks quotes on Romney:
New York Times columnist David Brooks is supposed to be the house conservative of PBSs NewsHour and convention coverage, but he dripped contempt for conservatives from Mitt Romney to Rush Limbaugh on Wednesdays night live coverage. He decried Romneys speech as extreme "He drifted so far right, Im sort of, my mind is boggling."
If any Republican candidate is going to win this year, he will have to offer a new brand of Republicanism. But Romney has tied himself to the old brand. He is unresponsive to the middle-class anxiety that Huckabee is tapping into. He has forsaken the trans-partisan candor that McCain represents.
Seems Brooks prefers pro-populist Huckabee and trans-partisan McCain.

I saw that other effete phony Peggy Noonan on Glenn Beck last night. I have never seen somebody talk so much and say so little as her. She talks like she is writing a speech. The Brooks and Noonans are victim conservatives. They love whining and complaining and taking the philosophical high ground. When a conservative actually has a chance to lead they don't seem to like the theoretical becoming reality. They want to constantly talk about conservatism and never actually implement it. That way they can always keep their pretty little bird caged up. You Brooks, Will and Noonan need to accept more invitations of those wine and cheese tasting parties with your buddies out on Oyster Bay where you and your liberal buddies can marvel in your own brilliance. Leave actually implementing conservatism to the doers.

Insightful and I think accurate analysis. Well done. : )

Both Brooks and Noonan are pompous a**es. It seems almost a foregone conclusion that even some of the most well-intentioned, "conservative" Republicans eventually become elitist RINOs if their stay in the Washington beltway is long enough or they get invited to enough wine & cheese parties on Oyster Bay.
May God bless us with more people who are able to fight the force of elitism.
Sarah Palin appears uniquely equipped to fight the force and seems ready, willing and able to lead.
It's the war between The Born Talkers vs The Born Leader.

But you may be right that Brooks was never a conservative (and Rush may be wrong). He's only been on my radar for the past several years. Brooks has always been a Republican...but never a conservative. Before he wrote for the New York Times, he wrote for the Boston Globe.
He represents the "country club liberal Republican" set. Rush has spoken of him in this vein many times.
The apostates among the Beltway conservative punditry that he refers to are the Fred Barnes-types, not the David Brookses.

FYI, David Brooks wasn't a Romney supporter. Did you not bother to read past the first paragraph of the article to which you linked?

He can’t help it. It is a terminal condition among anyone who was raised on the Main Line (affluent western suburbs of Philadelphia). Check out “The Philadelphia Story” to see a good cinematic depiction of how such folks act.

Minus_the_bear is an idiot.
Brooks was never a Romney supporter.

I’ve never heard of him, but in reading this article, it’s apparent he’s following the fake messiah.

did anyone else see Mitt take Lou Dobbs to school yesterday? No. Do you know where I can find a clip of it?

David Brooks is married and has kids. Again, he can’t help the way he behaves, he was raised in Wayne/Radnor (Philadelphia Mainline). I have family there, and they act similar (but are not gay).

I say Romney was the perfect candidate to deal with whats taken place since the 15th of September related to the economic meltdown.
The ‘scum’ that produced a GOP candidate that didn’t win a primary when it mattered - John McCain - is Mikey Huckabee.
