Schumer rips Chamber of Commerce By J. Taylor Rushing Posted: 10/08/08 01:17 PM [ET]

DSCC Chairman Charles Schumer (D-N.Y.) came out swinging Wednesday against the U.S. Chamber of Commerce, saying the business lobby was no longer nonpartisan and “has turned into a wing” of the GOP.

In a press conference at Democratic Senatorial Campaign Committee (DSCC) headquarters, Schumer said the path and pattern of the contributions indicate that the Chamber is afraid of the Democrats winning the critical Senate threshold of 60 seats — a goal he said is within reach now more than ever.

Democrats already have 51 seats in the Senate, and Schumer said the party’s candidate is significantly ahead in five races and even in seven others — meaning a 63-seat majority is possible in 2009.

The Chamber’s contributions have come almost wholly in Senate races, Schumer said, not House elections or the presidential race. The sole exception to the Republican favoritism, he argued, was donations in Louisiana, where Democratic Sen. Mary Landrieu is seeking reelection.

Schumer distributed a chart showing the Chamber has donated $16.28 million to Republican candidates this election cycle, and only $329,000 to Democrats. The ads funded by the contributions have all come in 2008, said DSCC spokesman Matt Miller, and have included Chamber affiliates like the Coalition for a Democratic Workplace and the Employee Free Action Committee.

It always amazes me that Schumer gets anyone to listen to him, much less the air time.

He is the senior Senator of a state with the largest metro media market in the United States. He is also a shameless self-promoter.

Yo Schmucker:

Businesses know the Socialist party has declared total war and them and they donate accordingly.

Very simple to understand, unless you are an Ivy League Law School graduate.

Schumer should be in jail. I’m not sure why he’s walking around a free man.

Hey Schumer, they actually do work. You and your cohorts do not.

I respect businessmen. I do not respect you. I do not respect the Senate. I do not respect the house. And, even though I have little respect for GW, should the Obamaloon be elected, it’ll be zero for three with my own government.

What did we do to get clueless ill-educated loons like you in our government?

I don’t think the Democrats will get to 60 seats. 57-59 is a real possibility. They’ve got 4 seats sewn up (Virginia, New Mexico, Colorado, New Hampshire) and are strongly contending in four other close races (Alaska, Oregon, North Carolina, Minnesota). Mississippi was always a pipe dream, IMO. Of the latter group of four, I’d rank them in the following order of vulnerability: Gordon Smith, Norm Coleman, Elizabeth Dole, Ted Stevens. I personally believe that Coleman, Dole, and Stevens will survive but Smith appears to be going down. That will give the Dems 56 seats four years after the Republicans had 55. The Dems will control every Senate seat on the West Coast and all but Maine’s two seats in New England. They’ll also gain at least one southern seat and two western seats.

I forgot to mention that I don’t think the Democrats have a real chance in Maine, Kentucky, or Georgia, despite any recent polls. Collins is still polling over 50%, Chambliss has never trailed in his race, and McConnell has also consistently led even with some recent polls showing things closer.

NH is not “sewn up.” While Jeane Shaheen, the taxing machine, has a leg up, it is real close. Sununu has run a remarkably strong, positive campaign.

St Anselms had him down 15 recently. This poll was squashed by even the Shaheen campaign. Totally bogus. Insiders say it will be a real close one.

If Rudy G. loved this country he would make it the priority in his life to defeat this pile of excrement. Schumer is an absolute worthless scumbag.

I haven’t checked the polls recently, but Susan Collins was leading by 16 points in Maine last time I checked.

She is very popular with both democrats and republicans in Maine....I can’t see her losing.

Her challenger, Tom Allen, is vacating his 1st district congressional seat in order to challenge Senator Collins.
Allen is a moonbat. The airwaves are non-stop Allen commercials, with him claiming Bush’s eight years are responsible for the current economic crisis, tax cuts for the rich, the Iraq war was wrong, and all that crap.

Susan Collins runs plenty of ads, too....I’m sure the GOP will hold her Senate seat.

I think Sununu can keep it respectable, unlike say, Rick Santorum. I just don’t think he can win. Since he won by 19,000 votes in 2002, the Republicans in New Hampshire have lost both House seats and a governor’s race, along with losing the state in 2004 to John Kerry. I think only a surge by McCain can save Sununu and that is looking less and less likely.
