With Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton at his side, Rick Noriega glimpsed the political limelight a Democratic Senate candidate would traditionally expect in South Texas a month before the election.

How does Cornyn cut into Norieg'a base and yet only lead by a supposed poll from Rasmussen by 7. This makes no sense. On the basis of his support in the valley, he should be up by 20. Another rasmussen stinker.

"Another rasmussen stinker. "

Rasmussen isn't just polling South Texas. Cornyn lost my vote (and many others) when he voted for the bailout, against the vast majority of his constituents' wills. A lot of us Republicans up here in the "rest" of Texas are pretty pissed off. We're voters Cornyn should be able to count on. I'm voting for the Noriega guy, whoever he is. He'll be easy to defeat in 6 years and it will be fun watching Kay Bitch Hutchinson (also voted for bailout) having to work with this guy. HA!!!

You are NO Republican. John Cornyn supports our military 100% and you want to elect a Dem for six years? Some of you have zero concept of what that means but fortunately most Texans understand.

Is there really any such thing as “South Texas” or would it be more fitting to refer to “North Mexico”?

Waaah.

But don't worry. Cornyn will still win. Most Republicans don't realize the treachery he committed against us.

Cornyn will win with ease. I live in South Texas and have not seen one Noreiga ad or sign for that matter. One thing some Hispanics don’t like (at least in some parts of South Texas) is being taken as an automatic vote for the Democrats, well at least the newer generations.

"Great move."

Yep. It's going to hurt me more than it hurts Cornyn, I know, but I cannot reward his treachery.

Senators make terrible presidential candidates, and even worse presidents. They make deals instead of standing by their convictions and leading. Cornyn is a perfect example of this.

An aritcle in the American Statesman today according to his spokeman has Cornyn with an 18 point lead among 800 Texas voters.. Cornyn will win easily.

Look, Perry, Hutchinson, Cornyn are all “conservative” only when it doesn’t hurt and gutless pushovers the rest of the time.

The alternatives are still worse.

Maybe. Maybe not. Sometimes things have to get worse before they get better. Our elected officials need to understand their place. If they are left to behave this way, we have no one to blame but ourselves. I don't know much about Noriega, but I do know he's a military man, and I do not believe he would do anything to hurt our troops. As far as fiscally, he can do no worse to us that Cornyn just did.

Keep in mind that Noriega has a military background - there are plenty of liberals in Texas that are not keen on that (I'm not saying they'll vote Republican, but you never know). He has also been speaking out against the bailout and trashing Cornyn for supporting the bailout.

Somebody had a good point about Noriega - he plans on staying in the Texas National Guard even if elected, and he's already deployed once to Afghanistan. Chances are he'll be deploying again within a year or two to Iraq or Afghanistan, at which point Texas temporarily loses a sitting Senator. Why vote for somebody who will probably be going to Iraq or Afghanistan for a year or so?

Don’t worry about those types - there are plenty of us pissed at Cornyn for his support of the bailouts. Maybe not enough to vote Noriega, but enough not to vote for Cornyn. Unfortunately we are past the primaries and can’t replace Cornyn.
