NASHVILLE, Tennessee (Reuters) - Democratic presidential candidate Barack Obama has a slim 2-point lead on Republican rival John McCain in a tight White House race, according to a Reuters/C-SPAN/Zogby poll released on Wednesday.

Obama led McCain by 47 percent to 45 percent in the national poll, within the margin of error of 2.8 percentage points. Obama led by 3 points in Tuesday's poll.

Four percent of voters said they were still undecided.

The daily tracking poll, which will sample public opinion until the November 4 election, showed Obama leading among two crucial swing voting blocs. He has a 9-point advantage among independents and a 7-point edge among women.

"This race is at equilibrium," pollster John Zogby said, adding neither candidate has been able to take full advantage of voter unhappiness with the country's direction.

"We are seeing an electorate that is frustrated with Washington," he said.

Its a dead heat. I thought Obama was supposed to have closed the deal last night? And the MSM decreed the election is over!

They were trying to contrive a situation where McCain had to have a “knockout” in the debate, and declare him the loser when he didn’t deliver. Maybe McCain’s internals tell a different story... go easy in the debate, continue to hit hard on the stump.

I know things backfired on Bush 41 when he tried to go hard in a townhall, and that pony-tailed guy started crying.

Are most of these polls showing that McCain isn’t adding to his numbers and the movement is all backwards on the Obama numbers?

Interesting.

So McCain is essentially tied with Obama again. You’d never know it by the full-court press the Democrats and their friends are putting on right now - they claim the momentum is entirely with Obama and this race is essentially over. Even some Republican commentators seem to agree. Thankfully the voters will decide, not commentators.

Agreed. I think the Gallup poll is an outlier. All the other polls show movement against Obama. What the media is doing is guaranteed to have the opposite effect for him. Obama comes up promising this decisive win and during the Democratic primaries, he couldn't put Hillary away even with the entire press corps in his corner. True, Obama has this big lead in Gallup but I'm not sure its based on anything we're seeing in the campaign. Obama's messianic aura is gone.

I hope this is a replay of 1980; too close to call, Carter up by a few points, Reagan talking straight to the people...

What I wonder is: With all the overflow rallies that Sarah is having, why isn’t that showing in the polls???

Wasn't his lead 3 points yesterday?

Methinks Obama is slipping a bit. Maybe McCain did better in the debate than we thought.

These are pre-debate numbers. The daily trackings won’t reflect the debate until tomorrow.
