Palin’s Kind of Patriotism (Friedman on Stupid Pills)
NY Times ^ | October 7, 2008 | THOMAS L. FRIEDMAN

Posted on 10/08/2008 5:29:42 AM PDT by publius1

Criticizing Sarah Palin is truly shooting fish in a barrel. But given the huge attention she is getting, you can’t just ignore what she has to say. And there was one thing she said in the debate with Joe Biden that really sticks in my craw. It was when she turned to Biden and declared: “You said recently that higher taxes or asking for higher taxes or paying higher taxes is patriotic. In the middle class of America, which is where Todd and I have been all of our lives, that’s not patriotic.”

What an awful statement. Palin defended the government’s $700 billion rescue plan. She defended the surge in Iraq, where her own son is now serving. She defended sending more troops to Afghanistan. And yet, at the same time, she declared that Americans who pay their fair share of taxes to support all those government-led endeavors should not be considered patriotic.

*** Andd then it goes on and on, ending with this piece of nonsense:

At least the king of Saudi Arabia, in advocating “drill baby drill,” is serving his country’s interests — by prolonging America’s dependence on oil. My problem with Palin is that she is also serving his country’s interests — by prolonging America’s dependence on oil. That’s not patriotic. Patriotic is offering a plan to build our economy — not by tax cuts or punching more holes in the ground, but by empowering more Americans to work in productive and innovative jobs. If Palin has that kind of a plan, I haven’t heard it.

Friedman -- the man who has taken every known position on every known subject at least once -- now comes out definitively FOR taxes and AGAINST Palin and anyone else who thinks paying 50%+ of our taxes is about as much "patriotism" as anyone can afford.

Tommy the Commie Friedman should know that a leader goes first.

If he thinks that paying more taxes is patriotic, he can volunteer to do so. Nobody is stopping him, and the IRS would be happy to accomodate his “patriotism”.

I consider it an act of patriotism to use the New York Times to line the cages of both my parakeet and parrot.

He’s hawking a book about the need to be green. I kind of like it when Libs come out in favor of taxes.

Friedman, you are a multi-millionaire. If you think paying higher taxes is patriotic, GET OUT YOUR DAMN CHECKBOOK!

The US Treasury will be happy to deposit into the general fund, and you can feel extra patriotic.

Yes a real stupid statement from Fiedman. In Palin’s comment she spoke to Biden declaration that paying HIGHER taxes was Patriotic. In Fiedmans’ statement he just takes that down to payong taxes. So he is sayiong whatever he needs to say to make his particuklar point regardless of the ccuracy. Typical media.
And oh by the way Mr Fiedman American began because Americans rebeled against paying taxes. Its in a little thing called HISTORY under the AMERICAN REVOLUTION...

"Plan." Like in 5-year plan, Tom? You can't "plan" an economy with billions of producers and consumers making decisions in their own best interests. You *may* (and did I emphasize *may* clearly enough?) be able to stifle the worst excesses, and kick-start some good ideas, but by and large economic planning is a fairy tale.

"Sarah Palin .... shone through like a supernova last night. ...
She crushed Biden last night. Nobody will remember Joe Biden 20 years from now.
Nobody will ever forget Sarah Palin, they just don't realize it yet.
Sarah Palin will be the first woman President of the United States.
Children born decades from now will see her picture on our currency.
There will be statues, bridges, and airports named in her honor.
She will permeate the history books as a leader
who opened a new and vibrant chapter in American history."

Another jackass that thinks higher taxes bring in more revenue to pay for government programs.

There are some out there that still hold to this view,

others know that it’s not true, yet support higher taxes anyway, out of “fairness” (ie, socialism and control).

Comrade Friedman, what Governor Palin supported are necessary endeavors which the Federal Government has every right to do.

When Governor Palin says paying more taxes to support the liberal social engineering/experiment, buy vote, create quasi Government business entities for the purpose of self enrichment, party welfare is not patriotic she has HIT THE NAIL ON THE HEAD!!!! A little socialism is like eating a little rat poison—eventually it will kill you!!!

This is a good example of why Friedman is a “journalist”.

He’s incapable of producing anything of value in the real world.

Dangerous retards like Friedman think it's great living in a state that taxes the crap out of you (New York) and whose budget is going to implode because the state government didn't tend to its money-making resource (Wall Street).

Wall Street provides 20% of the revenue that fuels New York's state budget.

On the other hand, in "bimbo b*tch" Palin's Alaska, the residents get a royalty check from the government, which is conserving and utilizing the state's resources for the benefit of the citizens, rather than for the benefit of the dacha ruling class.

People like Friedman and his pol pals are liars, creeps and thieves.
