Obama is STILL making the same 3 foreign policy gaffes (lies):
1) The US didn’t take its eye off the ball in Afghanistan and let UBL escape because Bush was preoccupied w Iraq. UBL escaped in Nov2001, Iraq buildup began 10 months later, and Iraq was invaded in 2003. WILL SOMEONE PLEASE GET OBAMA A CALENDER
2) The cost of the war in Iraq literally changes every week according to Obama. Tonight he claimed it was $700+bn. No. That’s the cost of the war on terror as a whole. Iraq (per the Congressional Research Service) cost $444.6bn as of July. For reference, the cost of all the Clinton Wars was about $450bn most of which was spent “containing” Saddam, and that “containment”….caused UBL to decide to start killing Americans; caused the war on terror
3) Obama promised to encourage democracy, reforms, peace, love, and happiness in Pakistan via foreign aid, but Biden said in the VP debate that the first thing they’d cut due to the financial crisis….is foreign aid.

I completely agree. When you look closely at Obama’s policies the mandates are EVERYWHERE. It’s a nanny-state on STEROIDS!
Where does Iran import oil from? Or does it have its own domestic sources? (Just checking up on an Obama statement.)

2nd Summary - I need to add the scariest comment came from Obama, who wanted the government to fire executives he disagrees with. This is not the USSR dude.
The focus groups bothered me too. They did not hear what they wanted to hear, and it dawned on me they did not hear about the magic bullet! It was very depressing to realize these people think DC kowtows to their smallest whims and has all these magic wands to grant everyone’s wishes. That was worrisome.
Summary - I give this one hands down to McCain. Obama kept trying jam talking points into answers with little to no relationship to the question. McCain answered questions directly. Obama looked weak on national security, McCain dominated, especially on Pakistan and invading that ally.
How about his no-fly zone in Sudan?
Not sure that their is much aircraft used in the Darfur conflict.
Not to mention that US pressure had a lot to do with Musharraf agreeing to elections. The current gov’t there knows this and is generally, although I would not say enthusiastically, our ally. In other words, the end result of the Bush policies turned out ok... at least so far. Obama talking about marching in there to get Osama does more harm than this naive junior senator can imagine.
Musharraf also cooperated in reigning in Pakistan’s exportation of nuclear arms technology, and THAT is one heck of a lot bigger item than temporary swings in whether the average Pakistani “likes” us.
One thing to note carefully is that Obama said he’d go into Pakistan to get Osama if the Pakistanis were unable or unwilling to do so. Think about that: The Pakistanis have been (understandably) pretty protective of their territory. If the Pakistanis are UNWILLING to go get Osama, and we go in there anyway, we could easily be in a shooting war with Pakistan. And Obama thinks IRAQ was a mistake???
I was sort of under the impression Musharraf was trying to break the Taliban off from Osama. I believe there was a thread on FR a couple days ago that indicated a possible new split (Taliban willing to negotiate?), but I never had time to read up on it...
Obama wants to help out the Chinese with clean coal technology, too. What the heck? The technology is pretty much “there”. If the Chinese want to buy it, they will (but more likely they’ll just copy it, IF they even care to do so.)
What’s worse is that McCain nevers calls him on it.
There was genocide, ethnic cleansing and mass murder being committed in Iraq by saddam against Kurds and Shiites. By his own reasoning we should have intervened in Iraq solely for humanitarian reasons.

He is riding the crest of a wave of populist ideas that will crash if he is elected.
I remember having a conversation, regarding this very subject, with a Pakistani college student hubby and I mentored. He wasn't real fond of Musharraf, but he admitted that he (Musharraf) had done a good job of fending off the radical Islamists that Pakistan has battled, seemingly, forever.
Now, I am worried about Pakistan. They seem to be teetering on the edge of a knife. Although the new government seems intent on fighting radicals, they don't seem to know how to go about it. I hope I'm wrong.
Right - Iran has refinery capacity for only about 1/2 of their gasoline and other fuel needs. Which makes their occaisional statements for consumption to gullible outsiders that they are interested only in nuclear energy, and not weapons, totally ludicrous. If they were trying to solve “energy” problems, they’d be developing the resources they already have, further.
I believe some of Iran’s gasoline comes in by tankers and some by pipeline - I do not know the %’s. Looking once again at a Middle East map, depending on where those pipelines run, it might or might not be possible to have ‘em shut down. But if any of ‘em originate in Russia, I’d guess that’d be a big problem. The Caspian Sea also lies between Russia and Iran, and if much gasoline comes in by that route, I’d think the only way to stop it is with air power. It looks to me like it’d be better to “simply” declare war and take out Iranian terminals, inland pipelines, and refineries, thereby not directly involving Russia. Of course, if you take out export facilities, then you have countries like China very upset.
At any rate, I’m pretty sure that any kind of blockade or restriction of gasoline imports would indeed be viewed by Iran as an act of war. They are already very short on gasoline supply as it is, the way I understand it...
The theory, as I’ve heard it, is that 5th Special Forces (the middle east experts), were pulled out of Afghanistan in December—February to prepare for the Iraq invasion of 13 months later. I have no idea, I’m only repeating what a couple military anti-Rummies told me.
