Read What Californians Are Saying to Hallmark About Their "same-sex couple" Cards

[FPN - 10/7/08] - Many citizens throughout California (see their comments below) have joined a nationwide boycott against Hallmark Incorporated, in response to that company's introduction of so-called "same-sex couple" greeting cards. The boycott, which was announced in August by Family Policy Network, has begun to attract supporters in cities and towns throughout the nation.

The text of the Boycott Hallmark petition reads as follows:

To: Hallmark Cards CEO Donald J. Hall

In Isaiah 5:20, God warns against exchanging good for evil by saying, "Woe unto them that call evil good, and good evil; that put darkness for light, and light for darkness; that put bitter for sweet, and sweet for bitter!" (NKJV)

In Mark 10:6-8, God’s design for marriage is expressed clearly by Jesus Christ, when He declares, "But from the beginning of the creation, God ‘made them male and female.’ For this reason a man shall leave his father and mother and be joined to his wife, and the two shall become one flesh; so then they are no longer two, but one flesh." (NKJV)

I urge you to withdraw any and all products sold by your company that celebrate, condone or otherwise encourage homosexual conduct and/or relationships. Unless and until you do, you have my pledge that I will refrain from doing business with your company.

Many Californians who signed the petition to boycott Hallmark added their own comments to the statement above. Here is a sampling of those comments:

I quit buying Hallmark products years ago when I learned that their company policies are anti 2A. As I recall, they fired some worker who came to work with his shotgun in his truck during hunting season—or something silly like that.

Do the cards mention marriage at all or is it congratulations on your special day? I am against gay marriage but if someone wants to by a card for a gay couple I have no issue with that. I think the story needs more details. For example if the card says “Congratulations on your Wedding Day” or “Matrimony is a special event” then I would be outraged, but if it says “I hope you two have a wonderful life together” or “A day you come together” would not be as bad. What is it?

You have to watch out, because many grocery stores sell Ambassador Cards, which is a part of Hallmark.

With respect, I disagree with your stance. I would never offer any gesture that showed agreement or acceptance of any homosexual relationship.

I do not believe this is good for America. In spite of what the popular media tells us, homosexual behavior is a destructive lifestyle. It destroys lives and relationships and contributes to the deterioration of our culture. It is not an innocuous, "nobody hurts anybody" lifestyle.

As a Christian, I love homosexuals. I count several of them among my friends and acquaintances. I want the best for them and that is why I do not endorse or encourage their self-destructive behavior.

That may sound harsh, but state promotion of a behavior that is an unusually good method of transmitting an incurable, fatal disease doesn’t sound like a great idea to me.

If the government applied this “logic” to smoking then lighting up would be considered a fundamental constitutional right.

I’m a Libertarian, and I never criticize consenting adults for doing the things that make happy. Hallmark is a capitalist company and is catering to an unmet niche market in the greeding card market. They should be praised, not criticized, for creating products that people want to buy. This is supposed to be a capitalist country.

That reminds me that I’m still boycotting Slim Fast because of Whoopie Goldberg’s rant against President Bush a few years ago.
The interesting thing is, at that time I looked for alternative products to replace Slim Fast and found better ones anyhow.
These corporations don’t realize what damage they do to themselves.

I’m also cancelling my subscription to a magazine called “MORE”. It’s for women over 40 (smiles).
They put Michelle Obama on the cover for the October issue complete with a gushing article.
But neither Cindy McCain nor Sarah Palin got equal billing.

You should have seen the backlash of comments on their website. I would say 85%-90% thought the same way I did. If that is any indication of how the election will go, we all can be encouraged.
