Washington, DC (LifeNews.com) -- The head of one of the nation's biggest pro-life groups says the upcoming presidential debate on Tuesday should include a discussion of how Barack Obama and John McCain disagree on a significant life or death issue.
Wendy Wright, the head of the Concerned Women for America Legislative Action Committee, tells LifeNews.com, that the two candidates are far apart on whether newborns who survive failed abortions should receive medical care.
While Senator McCain voted for a federal bill to protect the infants, Obama, as a state legislator, opposed a nearly-identical bill that would have made the medical care state law in Illinois.
Coming on the heels of the highly-watched vice-presidential debate, McCain and Obama need to address one issue that was not discussed -- abortion," Wright says.
Wright indicated she has heard rumblings about the possibility of Senator McCain criticizing Obama for his votes against the bills for medical care for babies who survive abortions -- which have earned him the ire of pro-life voters.
"The most obvious example that we expect to come up in Tuesdays debate is the Born Alive Infant Protection Act," she said. "John McCain should explain in clear terms why he voted for this federal law, and Barack Obama should explain why he voted against a state law that was identical to the federal law."
"A candidate with a strong pro-life record should proudly describe what laws he voted for that respect vulnerable human life, and should nail his opponent for opposing laws that treat unborn babies and newborns with dignity," she said, encouraging McCain.
If the candidates have a frank discussion of what should be a commonsense piece of legislation, Wright says that will help pro-life voters know which candidate is more in tune with their values.
That is especially important as Obama, and Obama-supporting groups like Catholics United and the Matthew 25 Network are trying to deceive voters about which candidate will best reduce abortions.
Wright gave LifeNews.com what pro-life voters should use as a map for breaking down that debate.
"The popular phrase in politics now is we need to reduce the number of abortions,'" she said. "But voters need to be savvy and dig deeper."
"Find out if the candidate supports policies that have proven to reduce abortions, or if they support policies backed by abortion providers," Wright added.
McCain MUST bring this up if he wants to win.

I don’t think McCain will bring it up. He avoids most of the things that are controversial. He has even ruled out attacks on Rev Wright. He has to fight harder.
“voters need to be savvy and dig deeper.”
Amen!
That goes for voters acros the board, on ALL issues.
And remember, credibility is ALWAYS an issue.
what????
Obama supports abortion and infantcide???
who knew!!!!???
Isn’t this a townhall debate? If so, a person just might ask that question.
Everyone but the liberals. They refuse to believe it, even though he voted for infanticide, and spoke out on the floor in favor of it.
Gwen Awful was careful to avoid this topic. Wonder why? Hmmmm? Obama is a pro-infanticide maniac because he fears chipping away at Roe v Wade. To protect a crappy Supreme Court decision, he prefers babies to be pulled out of the womb at term, legs first, and have their brains sucked out in the birth canal so they can technically be called unborn.
Scum. Puts him in the company of Mengele.
I guess thats why he has Sarah around; to do the heavy lifting.
“guess thats why he has Sarah around; to do the heavy lifting.”
She can do it too. She has been hitting on Obaby pretty hard today.
Agree.
I also wish he would detail the warnings he gave about Fannie May, that BO got lots of money from them, that the guy who headed it now works for BO. Something like, “I know that you received a lot of money from fannie may, I know that Frank Raines, the guy who ran the company in to the ground and made millions off of the poor, now works for you. But I’m reaching across the aisle and asking you to give up that cash cow and call for an investigation into this Rein’s actions.”
Why is it that with everything but the kitchen being thrown at Obama . Including this issue. He is up by 8 points in Red States ? I don’t get it ?
Two schools of thought 1: People are telling the pollsters what they think they want to hear.
People are a lot more stupid than I give them credit for.
The McCain campaign needs to go after who Obama is, what he has supported in the past, and what he will do in the future.
And then paint a better picture of themselves.
Quite simply, people are stupid. Either by nature (half the population has to have an IQ below 100, that is just a statistical reality, and that segment can be more easily manipulated in either direction by superficial arguments and emotional ploys), or by choice, they refuse to look into the facts, they vote Democrat because they’re Union, or their parents did or it’s the party of “the little people” or they’re college-educated latte liberals who are too “enlightened” to vote Republican, it’s not part of their self-image, who cares about the country or innocent life. I think the real wackos, Code Pink types, potheads, etc, must fall in the low-IQ category, they are hopeless. The dangerous ones are the smart ones with a leftist agenda who are manipulating the dummies by controlling the MSM, Hollywood and the universities.
