2006 census data for Arlington County has a population of 199,776 with 17.7% under 18. That leaves a population of 164,415.65 of voting age. Arlington reported 27.8% of the population in 2000 as foreign born. They don't provide the statistics for those that have been naturalized. The percentage of immigrants is probably higher now.

If now there are 165,000 people of voting age and we make a guess that even half of the foreign born are adults and are citizens by the 2000 numbers, then 22,935 would not be eligible to vote due to citizenship. Subtract that from 165,000 and 142,965 (very conservatively) are eligible to vote.

Arlington reports 146,000 on the voting roles out of about 142,965 eligible? That would mean that 98% of the eligible population is registered.

Arlington is painfully liberal.

What am I missing?

We need to show up in massive numbers on election day, it’s time to put ideological purity aside this election. Please watch and distribute this video.

How about Obama openly campaigning for his communist cousin Odinga who signed a pact with Muslims to enact Sharia Law if elected and started riots when he lost. Obama campaigned for an openly Anti-American candidate in a foreign country in 2006 at taxpayer expense.

What you are missing is the fact that Arlington is no longer a community that is reproducing itself. Children are not being created and born, or if created are being aborted. The county is on the road to de-population unless artifically kept populated by people moving into it. Perhaps some of the new folks will be interested in procreation.

On the other hand, think of all the money that can be saved by no longer needing any schools!

Boomers Flocking To Arlington County's Metro Corridor After Life-Changing Events (May 2007)

"Demographer Roberto Ruiz of Arlington's planning office estimates that Arlington's baby boomer population -- residents ages 45 to 64 -- has increased 34.4 percent to about 54,300 since the 2000 Census. The population of the county is just under 200,000."

I imagine most of these boomers were already registered to vote.

On the plus side, every voter has to present picture ID before being allowed to vote

You are, of course, missing the illegals now registered (multiple times each of course - even those NOT living here any more!), the dead, the homeless, those just working in that area, but voting in both places, and a bunch of DC residents being bussed south to vote in VA.

I may have missed a few others.

My county is approx a million, and I heard on the news this morning 500,000 registered to vote. That seems very high to me.

And when McCain wins,, the groundwork for riots and lawsuits will be laid because,, hey,, Obama had to win, he was ahead in the polls!

You missed convicted felons, which, of course, would make the figures even more ridiculous.

I guess it could be fraud, but you need to remember that a lot of people in politics, government, and NGOs live in Arlington...in other words, it’s a highly educated and fairly affluent county where most people consider it poor civic stewardship not to vote...so the high voter registration is perhaps not fraud. Unlike DC, Arlington doesn’t really have any slums and probably more than half of the population has a bachelors degrees and I heard that close to 40% of the population has graduate degrees. Heck, where else in the country can you walk on the public bus system or the subway and see the majority of people actually reading newspapers, books on government, politics, law, etc.? That’s just how Arlington is...it’s educated, affluent, and full of people who will be running to the polls on election day. Unfortunately, most of them are young “progressive” liberals.
