No matter who is elected president in November, former CIA officer Robert Baer has no doubt about what will be topping his agenda: Iran.
Everything is coming to a head in the Middle East, Baer tells Newsmax. The days of messing around with Iran are over. Weve been kicking this can down the road for 30 years, and now were at the end of the road.
The former CIA covert operative asserts that the Islamic nation of 70 million people is building an empire in the Middle East, believing it should be the citadel of Islam.
He warns that Iran is probably months, if not weeks, away from war with Israel.
Thats the message of Baers new book, The Devil We Know: Dealing with the New Iranian Superpower.
Baer came to national prominence after he left the agency in 1997 and wrote the New York Times bestseller See No Evil, detailing almost two decades of intrigue he saw firsthand while working for the agency. See No Evil and another Baer bestseller, Sleeping with the Devil, were the basis for the Oscar-winning film Syriana.
In previous books Baer had detailed the threat posed by Saddam Hussein. Now he has his finger clearly pointed at the Iranians.
With Chinese Silkworm missiles pointed toward the Strait of Hormuz, Iran has the ability to cripple the world economy in a matter of minutes by shutting down the flow of oil. Thats even before it gains a nuclear missile.

Another one duped.
“The former CIA covert operative asserts that the Islamic nation of 70 million people is building an empire in the Middle East, believing it should be the citadel of Islam.
He warns that Iran is probably months, if not weeks, away from war with Israel.”
Israel is NOT the immediate goal of Iran - Saudi Arabia and Iraq is! How can an ex CIA guy be so blind to this?
BTW, there is no such thing as an "ex" CIA Agent.
low grade fever today...sorry
Hope you are feeling better soon.
“Yoo-Hoo!! I’m selling a book over here!!”
I do believe we are closer to a global conflagration than we have been since the end of WWII. Add to the long instability in the Mid East with the Islamofacists the current banking/market's crises now world wide, I really fear that it would take a very, perhaps even, inconsequential incident to start everyone shooting at each other.
I don't, for the life of me, understand why Mr. McCain doesn't hammer at the dangers "our" financial mess are creating in terms of national security and draw parallels to the real reasons for the past World Wars all started by a minor incident not related to the underpinning economic conditions which really is the cause for all armed disputes.
Of course you know that I am not a great fan of John McCain in the first place. But he, especially, being a graduate of the Military Academy and hopefully Command and General Staff schools to include the Navy War College should have a root understanding of what brings about major shooting wars and the ultimate motivating factor for the initiator of those events.
Personally, and not a new observation by me, our elected leadership has so poorly acted as stewards of our Republic for so long, I have no clue concerning how much longer the Republic can last. No the sky isn't falling, but crap could start falling out of the sky at any time!
Just my 2 mils, $0.02 adjusted for the loss we have all suffered in our savings vehicles over the past week, especially.
See my profile...
That's not what it means. It means only that they have to review such books- be they fact or fiction, whether the gov likes the message or not- to insure that no classified information is revealed. If there's no classified info, codenames, exposure of identities, it gets approved even if it is full of fallacies, even if it is critical of policy or government agencies.
I believe that. They still need Israel to be the bogeyman.
Iran - an attack is still possible
