Sen. Barack Obama (D-Ill.) on Monday will launch a multimedia campaign to draw attention to the involvement of Sen. John McCain (R-Ariz.) in the Keating Five savings-and-loan scandal of 1989-91, which blemished McCains public image and set him on his course as a self-styled reformer.
Pushing back against what it calls guilt-by-association tactics by McCain, the Obama campaign is e-mailing millions of supporters a link to a website, KeatingEconomics.com, that will have a 13-minute documentary on the scandal beginning at noon Eastern time on Monday. The overnight e-mails urge recipients to pass the link on to friends.
The Obama campaign, including its surrogates appearing on radio and television, will argue that the deregulatory fervor that caused massive, cascading savings-and-loan collapses in the last 80s was pursued by McCain throughout his career, and helped cause the current credit crisis.

You know what?
I could care less about the K10.
I care about a communistic attitude, that’s associated with
so many suspectable people, his doings and teachings,
getting control of our government. It blows my mind that anything less
is that important.
When Jimmy Carter walked out of the Oval Office for the last time in January of 1981 every Savings and Loan in the country was doomed to fail. Five hundred had failed or been absorbed in the previous six months. Another 500 would fail within the year. Ninety-five percent were losing money and losing BIG money.
The problem was over-regulation.
HAHAHAHA When the prosecutor and investigator of the scandal have all stated and are willing to state McCain had nothing to do with it, which is why he was never charged, that’s a hard sell. But typical.
Fauxbama has to go back 25 years to manufacture a scandal to try to counter his own real ones going on now.
McCain beter play this in OH and say BO attacking Sen. Glenn as well, another American hero, see how Ohioans like that.
Thank you for posting that. I had thought I remembered McCain getting a slap on the wrist, but my memory is clearly faulty.
Thank you. I was going by memory, and remember, we had no internet then, and no Foxnews. I had to rely on Good Morning America for news! ;)
I thought John Glenn was also.
My take, too. If the Keating “scandle” is the best they can do it ain’t, much. Anyway, it’s time for a no holds barred, bare knuckle fight. Last team standing wins.
I think it’s obvious dems were counting on race to soften campaign against Onada. They were also counting on intimidation—ala Ohio—to silence critics for fear of law suits. Both tactics have failed.
I find it particularly interesting that the Onada crowd— who have called Palin a whore, unfit mother and stupid—is complaining about dirty campaigning. But the dems are who they are.
I looked at quite a few of steve-b’s posts. He looks ok to me. Let’s check a guy’s record before we take a shot at him. Let’s no start fighting amongst ourselves. Let’s save the fighting for the real trolls and for the 0bama promoters.
Good, now let’s get back to Obama’s pal, Ayers, the guy who murders Americans.
No question that this was going to happen but I really think this won’t work for Obama. He really does not want to get in a tit for tat game when it comes to past associations.
And who are the other politicians from Keating?
Someday we will know Barack’s name from the Fannie Mae scandal.
Exactly. Obama jumps his gun. Another premature Iraqulation from Obama.
Soon to come, the McCain BROADSIDE:
Obama, ACORN (Association of Community Organizations for Reform Now)
and the current financial mess

McCain came out today through intermediaries and said that he had heard of Keating but really didn’t know him!
do I really need the /s?
Co-founded by Ayers and Walter Annenberg (d. circa 1990).
The freakin’ horror!
(sarcasm off)
Right. But I think that to demonstrate, say, to an “Independent” voter that FartBack, er, I mean FactCheck, can no longer be taken seriously, you show that voter a non-political truth... Such as the lunacy of that definition of terrorism. Then add in the Obama connections.
