Franken pulls ahead in new Minn. poll By HARRY SIEGEL | 10/4/08 12:02 PM EDT Text Size:

A new Star Tribune Minnesota poll released yesterday shows a 13-point jump in support in the last month for Democratic comedian-turned-politician Al Franken, who now has his first clear lead, 43 percent to 34 percent, in the much-watched race against Minnesota incumbent Republican Sen. Norm Coleman.

The Star Tribune poll also shows support for the relatively low-profile campaign of Independence Party candidate Dean Barkley at a high watermark of 18 percent, with most of his support drawn from Coleman, in what may be an indication of local unhappiness with Washington in general and Republicans in particular. Franken continues to lead Coleman, though, in a hypothetical two-candidate matchup.

Two trends seem to be contributing Franken's lead in the Star Tribune poll, which also showed Coleman's job-approval rating at a new low of 38 percent. In what's been a fiercely contested campaign, Coleman has taken heat for the tenor of his advertising, with 56 percent of respondents seeing the ads aimed at Franken as “mostly unfair personal attacks,” while just 42 percent said the same about those aimed at Coleman.

The poll also found Democrats have opened a substantial lead in party identification, with 42 percent of likely voters self-identifying as Democrats, compared with just 26 percent identifying as Republicans.

I’m skeptical, a 13 point jump?

If he wins in Minnesota this nation is truly doomed.

This is the poll a that the Powerline guys wrote about this morning. They figure it is preliminary poll to announce that Obama is ahead by 10 points in Minensota. The Presidential poll comes out tomorrow.

I have to say that I see very few Obama signs around my town, and fewer Al Franken signs.

They think the Strib is deliberately putting up a phoney poll. Only yesterday a new poll showed Coleman ahead by double digits.

Amazing! I just find it amazing that people can actually vote for this guy. So how much of my money has he promised them?

“If he wins in Minnesota this nation is truly doomed.”

Yep, and every quasi celebrity in the country will start running so they can have a job, get attention, and get a retirement.

I read recently that even Loony Clooney is thinking about running for something. Now THAT would be ridiculous!

Yup, he was down by ten as reported recently. HTB. I can’t believe that these ads highlighting Franken’s profanity aren’t having a positive effect for Coleman.

No, just some Republicans who are having a little polling ‘fun’ with Coleman since he voted for the bailout. I salute them!

This is nuts, completely nuts. Survey USA has Coleman up by 10 points in a poll dated yesterday. Now this commie rag has Franken up by 9 pts. I’ll repeat what I posted yesterday. Left-leaning polls are intentionally lying in order to sway the vote.

Complete BS. The Star-Tribune is WELL KNOWN for its bogus polls pushing their candidate. Ignore this one.

This is from The Onion??? Right??

If a complete Dolt like Franken can win a senate seat, I fear for our Republic. And I am not just saying that. It proves the point that our education system is coming home to roost.

“I read recently that even Loony Clooney is thinking about running for something. Now THAT would be ridiculous!”

At least he’s handsomer than Franken. So he has one qualification for life in the public realm (we don’t like to look at ugly people too often), which puts him one up on Franken.
