WASHINGTON (AFP) — US President George W. Bush on Friday signed a mammoth economic rescue package aimed at saving troubled US banks and easing a credit crunch that he warned could spell disaster for the US public.

After campaigning for the bailout for two weeks and courting reluctant lawmakers in person and by telephone, Bush signed the Emergency Economic Stabilization Act of 2008 before leaving Washington for the weekend.

You guys are shameless and ungrateful. I hope that you are not that ungrateful in your daily life with the people you know.

I am a very forgiving person and I have supported President Bush's policies and voted for him twice.

However, I do not forgive those who commit treason against the country that my uncle and others died to protect.

Am I correct in observing that the senate inserted spending amendments to a bill that the house just voted on?Isn’t it the job of the house to ‘initiate’ spending/taxes, not to ‘concur’ with the deliberative body?

I see it as evidence that the U.S. Senate has been trying to undermine the Constitution every chance they got for years now. And they managed to pull it off with this self created crisis they first created themselves. Especially one sorriest excuse for a human being, Socialist championing Senator Barney 'the Mouth' Franks. (Did you see old Bill'O' rip him a new one last night?! What a hoot it was to!)

Like most folks around here I deeply regret that the President endorsed and now signed this bill. I just wonder if there is something going on that we do not know about.

Only time will tell, I suppose.

Tagline

We no longer live in a Representative Democracy.

Our "representatives" represent themselves alone no matter what the will of the people is.

This President saved our nation from surrender and defeat...

Yes, "saving the sheeple" so you can sell them into slavery to pay for your buddies' debts is a very noble act indeed.

PAULSON'S THEFT. A good one for the history books. It'll rank up there with Teapot Dome and Tamany Hall.

The Constitution is designed to actively limit the scope and abilities of the government. Claiming that I need to find a passage that says Congress CAN (as opposed to CANNOT) is a misrepresentation of the nature of the document.

Sorry, Terpfen, but your logic is exactly backwards. The document proscribes, in detail, that which the Federal Government is permitted to do; and leaves no doubt that anything NOT specifically permitted by the document is forbidden. The House and the Senate and the president should be forced by law to cite where the Constitution permits any and every bill or action that they pass/take. That they do NOT is the reality, and it has led us to this rush towards socialism. No one should ever have to prove Government actions Unconstitutional, but the the Gov't should have to prove Constitutionality for EVERYTHING that it does. If ever a person stepped forward to run for office on THAT platform, I would champion them till I died! And REAL conservatives would (or should) as well, regardless of the name of the party.

So, how do you plan to defend Bush on this one?

You don't. You just put him down as another POS president bought & paid for by the elites. Of course that is nothing new.

So, let me get this straight:

In order to save the economy, we need to reward a handful of uber-rich robber barons who should be seeing hard time in Sing-Sing.

Gotchya.

Bush is the Biggest Socialist to Ever Live in the White House.

Not the biggest.

But certainly the biggest from our side.

Yep, Bush is one of the worst Presidents in modern history. Not only has he set this country on a dangerous path in terms of economics and illegal immigration, but he’s also managed to pee away a lot of popular support he had by acting like a fool.
