It seems we are destined to spineless leaders pushing perverted justice and repressing the people.

It has been so all through history.

Historically, America is a fluke wrought by men of courage, conviction and insight and quickly perverted by men with no honor.

Malkin’s site.

Reader G.K. emails:

Did you notice in the debate Joe Biden intimated that because Article I describes the role of the VP, it makes the position in the Executive and not Legislative branch?

Well, Article I is the description of the Legislative Branch

http://michellemalkin.com/2008/10/02/joe-bidens-gaffes-imagine-if-sarah-made-them/(http://www.archives.gov/exhibits/charters/constitution_transcript.html)

In fact, the ONLY thing I see in the US Constitution about the Vice President is that the VP is the President of the Senate, but has a vote only in a tie. Originally the President of the Senate had a lot of authority…

Under the original code of Senate rules, the presiding officer exercised great power over the conduct of the body’s proceedings. Rule XVI provided that “every question of order shall be decided by the President [of the Senate], without debate; but if there be a doubt in his mind, he may call for a sense of the Senate.” Thus, contrary to later practice, the presiding officer was the sole judge of proper procedure and his rulings could not be turned aside by the full Senate without his assent.

In fact, according to the same site, the original role of the President of the Senate WAS very important.

( http://www.senate.gov/artandhistory/history/common/briefing/Vice_President.htm#2 )

The former chair of the judiciary committee should understand that Article 1 defines the legislative branch; Article 2 defines the executive branch. If you’re going to try and give that kind of detail, you damn well better get the detail right.

As I was listening to the debate on the radio, I heard Joe Biden approvingly condoning gay rights and “same-sex marriage” (his exact words). I immediately thought to myself: “Gaffe!” His true support for same-sex marriage actually slipped out of his mouth! (Extra credit to anyone who can find me a video clip of this part of the debate). UPDATE: Here’s the transcript:

It’s what the Constitution calls for. And so we do support it. We do support making sure that committed couples in a same-sex marriage are guaranteed the same constitutional benefits as it relates to their property rights, their rights of visitation, their rights to insurance, their rights of ownership as heterosexual couples do.

From the Mc camp:

And compiled by the McCain camp:

1. TAX VOTE: Biden said McCain voted “the exact same way” as Obama to increase taxes on Americans earning just $42,000, but McCain DID NOT VOTE THAT WAY.

2. AHMEDINIJAD MEETING: Joe Biden lied when he said that Barack Obama never said that he would sit down unconditionally with Mahmoud Ahmedinijad of Iran. Barack Obama did say specifically, and Joe Biden attacked him for it.

3. OFFSHORE OIL DRILLING: Biden said, “Drill we must.” But Biden has opposed offshore drilling and even compared offshore drilling to “raping” the Outer Continental Shelf.”

4. TROOP FUNDING: Joe Biden lied when he indicated that John McCain and Barack Obama voted the same way against funding the troops in the field. John McCain opposed a bill that included a timeline, that the President of the United States had already said he would veto regardless of it’s passage.

5. OPPOSING CLEAN COAL: Biden says he’s always been for clean coal, but he just told a voter that he is against clean coal and any new coal plants in America and has a record of voting against clean coal and coal in the U.S. Senate.

6. ALERNATIVE ENERGY VOTES: According to FactCheck.org, Biden is exaggerating and overstating John McCain’s record voting for alternative energy when he says he voted against it 23 times.

7. HEALTH INSURANCE: Biden falsely said McCain will raise taxes on people’s health insurance coverage — they get a tax credit to offset any tax hike. Independent fact checkers have confirmed this attack is false

8. OIL TAXES: Biden falsely said Palin supported a windfall profits tax in Alaska — she reformed the state tax and revenue system, it’s not a windfall profits tax.

9. AFGHANISTAN / GEN. MCKIERNAN COMMENTS: Biden said that top military commander in Iraq said the principles of the surge could not be applied to Afghanistan, but the commander of NATO’s International Security Assistance Force Gen. David D. McKiernan said that there were principles of the surge strategy, including working with tribes, that could be applied in Afghanistan.

10. REGULATION: Biden falsely said McCain weakened regulation — he actually called for more regulation on Fannie and Freddie.

11. IRAQ: When Joe Biden lied when he said that John McCain was “dead wrong on Iraq”, because Joe Biden shared the same vote to authorize the war and differed on the surge strategy where they John McCain has been proven right.

12. TAX INCREASES: Biden said Americans earning less than $250,000 wouldn’t see higher taxes, but the Obama-Biden tax plan would raise taxes on individuals making $200,000 or more.

13. BAILOUT: Biden said the economic rescue legislation matches the four principles that Obama laid out, but in reality it doesn’t meet two of the four principles that Obama outlined on Sept. 19, which were that it include an emergency economic stimulus package, and that it be part of “part of a globally coordinated effort with our partners in the G-20.”

14. REAGAN TAX RATES: Biden is wrong in saying that under Obama, Americans won’t pay any more in taxes then they did under Reagan.

VIDEO PROVING BIDEN LIED ABOUT COAL
Joe Biden lied in last night’s debate about his previous statements on coal. The last comment he makes to the young lady in the following video is: “No coal plants here in America.” This is the “rope line” comment that Palin called him on last night:

http://www.healthcarebs.com/2008/10/03/video-proving-biden-lied-about-coal/

We’re not supporting clean coal. Damn, he’s a close talker, get the seinfeld clip. No coal, but tech for china. eish.

Jonah Goldberg has Joe Biden pegged:

What struck me the most about the debate - and it probably helped having quintessential Obamaphiles in the room - was how Biden’s “gravitas” is derived almost entirely from the fact that he can lie with absolute passion and conviction. He just plain made stuff up tonight. I read a long list tonight in my debate with Beinart here at Wash U, we can visit the details tomorrow.

Just a few: Flatly asserting that Obama never said he’d meet with Achmenijad; that absolute nonsense about spending more in a month in Iraq than we’ve spent in Afghanistan (”let me say it again,” he said as if he was hammering home a real fact); the bit about McCain voting with Obama on raising taxes; his vote in favor of the war etc.

It’s amazing how the impulse to see Biden as the more qualified and serious guy stems almost entirely from his ability to be a convincing b.s. artist. I’m not saying Palin was always honest or unrehearsed, but when she offers up a catchphrase or a talking point, you can tell. When Biden spews up a warm fog of deceitful gassbaggery the response seems to be “what a great grasp of the issues he has!”

Biden’s Nostradamus Powers: Hizballah and Hamas
Posted by Steve Schippert
Published: October 3, 2008 - 12:58 AM
One of my ‘What? He did not just say that...’ moments (which usually makes my wife cringe, but she understood my explanation) was when Biden said the following on Hamas and Hizballah:

Here’s what the president said when we said no. He insisted on elections on the West Bank, when I said, and others said, and Barack Obama said, “Big mistake. Hamas will win. You’ll legitimize them.” What happened? Hamas won.
When we kicked — along with France, we kicked Hezbollah out of Lebanon, I said and Barack said, “Move NATO forces in there. Fill the vacuum, because if you don’t know — if you don’t, Hezbollah will control it.”

Now what’s happened? Hezbollah is a legitimate part of the government in the country immediately to the north of Israel.

For those who don’t know my writings over the past few years, Hamas and Hizballah have been a large part of my focus, particularly during the Palestinian elections of January 2006 and the Israeli-Hizballah war that summer. The above made my jaw drop. I recall zero position of note by either Democrat candidate regarding elections among the Palestinians.

But on the Hizballah reference, which is pure fantasy and wisdom projection borne of false descriptions to begin with, I’ll leave that to an excellent note fired to Kathryn Lopez that lacks no such authority of knowledge.

Joe Biden threw out a lot of bunk on foreign policy tonight, too bad Gov Palin didn’t have the foreign policy wonkishness to call him on it. Most ridiculous and downright strange was his contention that the Bush administration let Hezbollah into Lebanon, and then when “we threw them out” - whatever that means, he and Obama said NATO should go in but nobody took them up on it and now Hezbollah was all over Lebanon and that’s a problem. What?
Well, Hezbollah’s been there since the early 1980’s of course, blossoming throughout the 1990’s to become now over a third of the population of Lebanon with 2 cabinet members, a host of parliamentarians, and schools, clinics, and basically an entirely separate governance infrastructure in all of southern Lebanon and elsewhere. I suppose the throwing out of Hezbollah was the dismal and failed Israeli campaign of 2006 which dislodged nothing? Or was it Israeli’s occupation of Southern Lebanon from 1982 - 1999? Don’t remember an Obama position on NATO replacing Israeli occupation then. As for NATO going in after the 2006 debacle, well, I’m the one who rounded up 8,000 French and Italians and a few thousand other Euros to go into Southern Lebanon along with an assortment of others in August 2006 and while working that issue for about 40 straight days I don’t remember a peep from Biden or Obama about NATO - which wouldn’t be budged despite our intense pressure in Mons. So, we went straight to Rome and Paris. Que sera, sera.

That’ll leave a mark. As it should.

http://wizbangblog.com/content/2008/10/03/bidens-nostradomus-powers-hizballah-and-hamas.php

Update: I loved it when Sarah Palin said “I watched all those debates” basically telling Biden in not so many words that she knows what he said in those primary debates and what he is saying now is not true. I smiled when she said that because I know she probably watched “those debates” this week in preparation for this debate and almost certainly remembered more of what Joe Biden said in them than he did.

Update II: I watched some of the morning shows. On ABC’s Good Morning America a news summary of the debate went something like this “Sarah Palin used folksy language and winks to connect with the audience while Joe Biden tied John McCain to President Bush.” I hope I just missed it, but I didn’t see anyone pointing out all the mistakes Joe Biden made. Last night Chris Matthews was ridiculing Sarah Palin for what she said about the Vice President’s role, but it appears she was more correct than Joe Biden on that point. Heh, Victor Davis Hanson has some fun with Joe Biden.

http://article.nationalreview.com/?q=ZmU3YzIyZDU1ZTM2OTc1MTI0Mzc3Njc3ODFmYzZjNWY=

Update III: More Joe Biden fact checking — Michael Tottenon Biden’s comment about kicking Hezbollah out of Lebanon. More evidence the media lets Democrats slide even on the stupidest mistakes and downright lies.

http://www.commentarymagazine.com/blogs/index.php/totten/35261

Update IV: Well, you don’t have to look at video of Barack Obama’s primary debate to find that Joe Biden was wrong about Obama saying he would meet with Iran without preconditions, it is still on the campaign website! I am sure the media is going to be all over Biden’s many mistakes (lies) from last night. Someone please let me know as soon as it happens.
