True ‘dat. At least my community (Sterling Heights) is relatively conservative (or at least Republican). My wife comes from a heavily Republican rural county just north of here, so there are pockets of sanity. Actually, that describes most of the state, except for the Detroit, Lansing, Flint/Saginaw/Bay City and Ann Arbor areas.

The suburbs of Cook county where i live, are mostly Republican. If not for Cook County, IL would be red.

And a fair part of the U.P. My brother lives in Marquette,and its a pure liberal enclave.He cannot stand it there,and is looking forward to retirement (early) and a quick exit.
