Gilchrest Unloads On Know-Nothing Pols--And Us, Too
http://voices.washingtonpost.com/ ^ | October 2, 2008 | By Marc Fisher

Wayne Gilchrest, the nine-term Republican congressman who represents Maryland's Eastern Shore and parts of Anne Arundel County, has had it, and he's ready to talk.

He's had it with his own party, which he says "has become more narrow, more self-serving, more centered around 'I want, I want, I want.' " He's finished with his party's presidential candidate, John McCain, who Gilchrest says "recites memorized pieces of information in a narrow way, whereas Barack Obama is constantly evaluating information, using his judgment. One guy just recites what's in front of him, and the other has initiative and reason and prudence and wisdom."

Gilchrest, a moderate who was defeated by a conservative challenger in February's primary, hit the boiling point after Monday's House vote rejecting the big financial bailout package. After much struggle and study, Gilchrest voted for the bailout; what appalls him about his many colleagues who went the other way was that they appeared to do so based neither on a close examination of the issues nor on principle, but rather with a finger to the wind and an eye on the e-mail inbox.

Looks like this Rhino is upset. What he is wrong about is that we do read not just the Financial Times but the Wall Street Journal and many many other resources. What we don't do is hang on the words of every inflated liberal who preaches socialism and social liberalism as if they are good things. We like to make decisions for ourselves not just go along with the latest scare tactics whether they come from Bush or the left. We don't go along just because the mainstream media and political correctness tells us we should. This guy is insane. He probably hangs on every word of Keith Oberman and Bill Mahr. This kind of Republican we don't need. The GOP if it had held to it's fiscally and socially conservative roots it would be in a great position to win every election. It might not do well in urban areas but if they win enough to cut off the life blood of taxes to those places it soon won't matter.

This is what we face. The enemy within. This is why we lose. These types have nearly killed our party. The compassionate liberal conservatives have made us weak.

Gilcrest you little puke! You fool NO ONE. You assume McCain will now lose and are making this pathetic SELF-SERVING, SELF-CENTERED rant because of what you want.

*One guy just recites what’s in front of him...*

This comment is about McCain?! Who’s the one carrying a teleprompter to the crapper?!

"One guy just recites what's in front of him, and the other has initiative and reason and prudence and wisdom."

Yeah right. Remove NObama's teleprompter and all you get out of him is "duh-ah,duh-ah,um-ah,um..."

Gilchrest voted for the bailout;

And Mc Cain didn't the first time. That's it in a nutshell. He did the second time, so he should be happy... unless he lost a piece of pork...

No! Andy Harris truly needs to “stay” in the next Congress, not “go”!

I think what he means is "one guy recites what he has studied (McCain), and the other is a passionate genius at reading a teleprompter".

I think the left has had a long and successful strategy of running a candidate in both parties. They have a real candidate who pretty much says the left side of stuff and they have another one, also on the left who simply mouths the conservative stuff. Win-win. How else do people so easily go from one philosophy to the other? And why is this conversion so rare going the other way? Even Lieberman didn’t go totally over to the other side. This Trojan Horse strategy seems to be working for them. There is hardly ever offered a solid explanation for a total and rapid shift in philosophy.

Hey Gilchrest, if you really have had it why don’t you give up politics (you’ve got no talent there any way) and go out and create some wealth? If you start now you probably can’t recreate all the wealth you’ve destroyed but any little bit would help.

The comments are astounding. I am all for a third party, but the person touting McKinney is not even in this reality. McKinney who thinks Katrina was a cover for 5,000 murders. It is scary who can vote in this country!
