I just e-mailed my congressman, Mike Pence, and asked him to stay resolute. It took forever, I’m guessing he’s getting a lot of traffic.
It’s time to make our voices heard.
The fix is in. Bend over fellow taxpayers.
I would have the American people consider this. Our financial system is hurting right now. But if the largest money people won’t bail out this problem, if they can’t fix it, or won’t fix it, why should the American people do it? The American people are being treated like fools.
BTTT!
Ain’t it jes’ remarkable how the crisis bubbled up just a few days late to save Lehman, but jes’ in time to rescue Goldman Sachs investments in AIG and to encourage Warren Buffett to buy into GS????
It seems to me that our elected officials think only they know what is best for the little people, And you can bet they are doing their best to cover their butts and investments. I predict that in the near future the little people are going to reach a breaking point and civil unrest will take back what these jerks are giving away. God help us all if Obama-ramma gets in because change will come, not a change that will do us any good. America better wake up quick and open their eyes to reality.
Way too much pork.

for FReeper of the Year...
another fine post.
the Senate added about 110 billion $$ to the “bailout” bill. including money for manufacturers of childrens wooden arrows....projects in Alaska....and incentives to companies that do business in American Samoa (the pajamas media are searching for proof of the rumor that Nancy Pelosi’s husband has a company operating there)....
so the Senate has piled on Pork to this unpopular bill....not to get the public to support it, but to get the members of Congress to support it and ignore the stated will of the people.
we want a solution to the “financial crisis” that involves fiscal responsibility, not a solution that involves dumping it onto our backs.
they threaten us with depression if we do not agree with their solution but they do not understand that their solution will cause severe depression for each and every one of us anyway.
we know we are in trouble, but we want the people who are responsible for this mess to take their share of the costs, not be rewarded with bonuses and congratulations.
Bump for later.
Bad as this bill is, the alternative is worse.
One of my favorite Senators, Tom Coburn voted for this bill. I am not going to second guess his wisdom.
It is needed, much as I hate it.
I couldnt get thru to my Congressman, Tim Murphy’s PA-18) office to tell him to stay strong and vote no again. I hope its more people like me (offering support and encouragement) but I fear the opposite.
What time does the vote start? And is it true no statements, just a straight vote?
This is "taxation without representation" writ large. This unConstitutional tax bill and transfer of power are the final death knell for the Republic IMO.
The financial mess is a symptom, not the disease. And hardly anyone seems to even recognize that fact. Even here.
My take on the bailout bill:
I think dems took advantage of this mess - the timing of the “crisis” was suspect to say the least. The financial problems have been building for a long time and easily could have been triggered a month ago, or 6 months ago. Paulson’s trip to Bush to get Bush to scream “fire” in a crowded theater pulled that trigger now. (not to mix metaphores or anything...) I suspect that if Obama wins, Paulson will be brought into his administration.
Paulson’s smart enough to know what’s going on - and he’s smart enough to know the effect this would have on the election. He also could have alerted Bush to this a year ago. It’s that old a situation.
I live in Florida - one of the places where toxic loans were made with abandon. Most of us here knew something bad was happening. People were being put into homes with “interest only” loans who would not be able to make payments past the first few months. It was a set up. But when you keep seeing the same pattern, there’s an incentive behind it. And that’s where Obama, Frannie and Freddie and congressional banking regulations come into play.
In short, like you - this does not have the feel of being an accident.
If the bailout is passed, it will benefit the people and agencies who got us into this mess. The only way it would work is if they are lying to us about the severity of the “crisis” I think that’s a possibility. If that’s NOT one of their lies, the bailout will postpone the problem. Postpone it to a time when we will have less money to do a real “bailout”.
Dem regulation insistence on making banks loans to people who never had a chance of making the payments was close to evil, but very effective in bringing down the financial system. Some people at the top understood the consequences of these choices. We’ll probably never know who they were...
I also believe that the media polls (given the massive media corruption) are deliberately rigged to discourage conservative voters, and more blatantly so in these last few critical weeks.
Nothing will change in DC unless we can get somebody elected who knows something about the American people. This may be our last chance.
For at least the next four weeks, we need to ignore the Tokyo Rose media, and keep fighting to win.
Just four more weeks -- doing what little each of us can do to keep Obama out, and get Sarah Palin in.
After that, if we don't win, there will be plenty of time and opportunity to write our eulogies. We're just not there yet.
