Florida Republican leaders hastily convened a top secret meeting this week to grapple with Sen. John McCain's sagging performance in this must-win state.
Their fears were confirmed Wednesday when four new polls showed Sen. Barack Obama leading, a reversal from just a few weeks ago when McCain was opening up an advantage....
One of the concerns has been the relationship between grass roots volunteers across the state and far fewer paid campaign staffers. Complaints range from not getting yard signs quickly enough to knowing who will speak at events and overall manpower coordination....
McCain supporter and former Republican Party of Florida chairman Tom Slade said he's been hearing rumblings over the past few weeks that the campaign is not fully utilizing volunteers, though he said that was not the case in Jacksonville.
"I get the sense that on the statewide basis, the grass roots Republicans don't quite feel like they have a natural fit within the McCain organization," Slade said....

And no offense meant to the good citizens of NJ, but you know what goes on locally.
Give your money to an out of state CONSERVATIVE candidate of your choice. I no longer give to the GOP, it's candidate direct for me from now on. We put together the 94 victory using that approach, defoley-ated the Congress.
A good place to find choices is Sen Demint's Senate Conservatives Fund, if you are looking for Senators to adopt. If you want to adopt a House Conservative, here is the place to start looking for a House candidate to adopt House Conservatives Fund
If you live in a shitty liberal state, send your money to Conservative organizations in other states, no matter how small the donation, it's much more likely to do more good for the cause overall than it is to turn the money over to the locals. Your call though ...
The richer we became as a country the more spoiled we became. Poverty in this country amounts to big screen TV's a house and being chronically over weight (nobodies starving). The truth is poverty is now defined as one person having more than another and that just can not be in the wonderfully mediocre world of Stalin. Instead we suppress individuality at least when it comes to accomplishment in any real sense. To satisfy the need for individuality the state will still allow you to pierce body parts, deform your body and speak out against political enemies of the party.
where is the initiative....can’t they go to Kinkos and print a few signs....?
And the joys of the “Cuban healthcare system” is big down here in Florida — NOT. Most people know first hand from refugees the truth about Cuba. I have along time friend who got out of Cuba and she does all she can to spread the truth about the horrors of Communism. But how would today’s young know? In the USA, you have to be ‘middle aged’ to have a living memory of the horror of Communism.
It’s time we took our job seriously, to spread the truth — Gov Palin knows. One conservative candidate is better than none.
very WISE advice...
I don’t give a dime to NJ and I think the republican party in NJ should throw the money into FL or PA if they want to have any chance of winning this thing.
I think the Republican party needs a thorough restructuring.
Same here in Tampa. But anything you say to these people and you are a racist.
The Obama cult followers are stealing McCain signs and causing a run in the Reno area !
The poor staff there get calls all the time about stolen signs!
It's even worse. Infill's book is scheduled to go on sale the day before the inauguration. If Obama wins, she stands to makes hundreds of thousands of dollars; if he loses, it'll be in the remainder bins in a few weeks and she forfeits most of the work she's put into the book. Hence, in effect, she's playing for a contingency fee of a few hundred thousand dollars based on Obama's winning. A judge who got caught doing this in a court of law would, unless she was an Obama appointee, be immediately disciplined and probably removed from the bench.
One of McCain's two great enemies in this election is the MSM. What Infill's done by becoming the debate's moderator with this raging undisclosed conflict of interest is just as bad as Rathergate. McCain should have refused to allow the debate unless she recused herself. Then he should have used her conflict as a prime example of how totally corrupt the MSM is. Instead, he said he thought Ifill could still be fair. Disgusting.
Until McCain totally blew it in the first debate, failing completely to pin responsibility for the morftgage mess and bailout on the DemonRats and, now, with this Ifill thing, I thought we had a fairly good chance of winning. I even gave his campaign $200 and have a McCain sticker on my car. Now I think we're going to lose. Everything I see makes me more depressed about my country and this election than I have ever been in my life. I'm almost 66 years old and I see us getting ready to turn into Zimbabwe West, with "our" candidate, McCain, doing nothing effective to prevent it.
They need to meet out in the damn open and start fighting. Obama now has free reign to lie without being called out on them.
Has anyone noticed this new, almost mean face Obama is wearing? It frightens me because he can taste the victory.
McCain is like a weak puppy, too tired to hit back.
I am angry because it is like we have been abandoned and left to Obama.
Obama is getting weirder and no one but talk radio and bloggers is willing to expose this evil menace.
Soon we will no longer be able to vote ourselves out of this. We probably can’t this time without a miracle.
Can you imagine McCain’s concession speech (if it should come to that, Lord help us). Party unity, reach across the aisle, Obama is a great man.....
Sadly, I cannot disagree with you.
Oh...Is John McCain running for president? I had no idea.
Does he know he’s running for president?
Does he know he has to defeat his opponent to win?
Does he care?
...or did he just take my money to run interference for Obama?
During the debate, he could have pointed out how the democrats were constantly saying all was lost in Iraq. Obama twice gave him the perfect setup. He didn’t.
He repeatedly said he would name names for pork barrel spenders and scandals. The biggest scandal in the history of the Republic comes along, and he doesn’t name a single name, “Now is not the time to assign blame.” Really? The democrats are blaming republicans. Obama blamed McCain and Bush repeatedly in the debate. He said nothing.
He suspended his campaign to work on the crisis. What did he do but hang out at his campaign headquarters that I helped pay for? Who is he to suspend the campaign? He didn’t pay for it!
Seriously, I want my money back. He isn’t a serious candidate. He isn’t even trying to win.
I’m within a red pubic hair of sending a demand letter threatening a class action lawsuit on behalf of all donors.
