SOQUEL -- Teachers at Soquel High School have agreed not to wear "Educators for Obama" buttons in the classroom after a parent complained that educators were attempting to politically influence his daughter and other students.

John Hadley, an importer of South African goods, called the school to complain Friday after his 16-year daughter Teegan returned home and reported that she had seen several teachers wearing the buttons.

My kid's teachers are overwhelmingly conservative. That is what getting your kids free of the government indoctrination camps will do for you.

I’ve only had three definitely conservative/libertarian teachers in my school career and in college. Many are impartial but most have some liberal slant to them.

Why don’t they just wear “teachers for stupid” buttons?

It’s the same thing.

Nothing that happens in the public school system surprises me any more. I frequent a dog park where there are quite a few teachers in the local school system. Some of them will tell you stories about how screwed up the schools are and almost beyond redemption. Others complain about how little money they have and how much more they need. This is in a school district that spends over $11,000 per pupil per year. They never have enough. Sometimes I think if they spent $50,000 per pupil per year they would still not have enough in their minds.

I went to part-time in my profession and started a program for a Masters of Education to become certified to teach. What I found was that the Education program was set up with that sort of indoctrination...to push the idea that more funding was needed.

In looking at the evidence, it appears to me that there’s a base level of funding that’s needed (obviously, if the kids have no heat or no paper or whatever, then it will impede learning), but beyond that, further funding doesn’t really seem to help very much (and at highest end, can hurt).

What’s needed is *appropriate allocation of funding* so good teachers get more and poor teachers get pushed out of the field.

I sat down once and tried to spend the money they had in classroom-year terms. At the time, I think it was like $250K/classroom-year. I couldn’t even get close.

A public school is not the proper forum for a teacher to promote ANY political party or candidate. It’s not a matter of free speech because teachers’ salaries are paid by the public - citizens of all or no party affiliation. The real problem is that the NEA is an adjunct of the Democratic party. It’s really no different from a teacher promoting a particular religion.

Where did you find that?!!

I haven't seen that in 44-45 years now, but within just the first couple of paragraphs, I knew it was going to end up being that story I've never forgotten, where the new teacher gets the kids excited about cutting up the US flag into little pieces.

I remember reading it as a kid when we were living in the States during the '63-64 school year. It was in a magazine my parents subscribed to, which I think had to be either the Saturday Evening Post or Reader's Digest. Great little story!

Good find. I never thought I'd run across it again.

Since when do "educated" and "Obama" go into the same sentence?

Unless of course we are talking about Obama's planned re-education camps.

I have no allusions that those are not in Obama's plans for Freepers and Talk Radio folks.

I really do hope that our server is wiped clean if The Black Racist and his thugs win this November.

These democrat thugs will threaten, intimidate, imprison or kill us all once they get their hands on the White House.

Our Republic will be transformed into something straight out of "1984" or "Red Dawn" to be certain.

I’m going to post it in its own thread because it is too long for this thread. It is so important because it looks like Obama maybe trying to pull it off for real!

Spending more than $12,000 per pupil in Education Week's ranking are New York, New Jersey, Vermont and the District of Columbia. Below California are Idaho, Arizona. Source - Apr 2008
