It's amazing how many FReepers have apparently drunk deeply of the "there's going to be an economic catastrophe if we don't hurry up and pass this bill. RIGHT NOW!" KoolAid. Ultimately they'll be happy because it looks like there are enough RINOs and de-balled GOPers in the House to pass this legislative abortion.

Ahhhhhhhhh.....immediate gratification........Now we can all go out for pizza and a movie!

“I see no willingness of the American people to head off the coming Social Security disaster. Thereby I look at this 700 Billion boondoggle is like debating if the Titanic needs an indoor theater as the iceberg looms ahead. The ship is going to sink if we spend it or not.”

I agree with you.

On the one hand, I am with the skeptics who think it solves nothing. After initially thinking ‘we have to do something’, I conclude that ‘something’ should be a workout not a bailout and that secty paulson over-reacted to the situation, which bad as it is does not constitute Great Depression 2.0 or even anything remotely close. Credit is plentiful to good credit risks.

On the other hand, the outrage over the expenditure is disproportionate to the actual cost. We will invest $700 billion in distressed assets and sell them back later. Actual cost of this could be zero. I’d guess that due to the stupid bernanke idea that we should buy above the distressed market value, we will indeed make investors (PIMCO FUNDS!) richer and leave taxpayers poorer. Maybe $100 billion cost.

Bad, but also about what our Leviathan Federal Govt burns through in about 2 weeks.

Social Security is the big enchilada and when the Bush plan on it was stopped cold in 2005 we ended the hopes for reform for a long time.

Dear Fellow Conservative,

You’d think it was the 1970s all over again.

Liberals are resurrecting Jimmy Carter’s failed tax, energy and economic plans.

Iran is saber-rattling against the West.

And Hanoi Jane Fonda is stumping for liberal Senate candidates.

That’s right, last Saturday night, Jane Fonda and all of her far-left Hollywood liberal friends raised $1 million for Democrat Senate candidates with one goal in mind — to break our Senate firewall and seize total control of our government!

“Everything now is ‘Obama, Obama, Obama,’ but we’re also concerned about the Senate, which is critically important no matter who wins the White House. We need to give the Democrats a majority totaling at least 60 senators.” (Politico, 6/18/08)

These Hollywood liberals understand the stakes. A 60-seat filibuster-proof super majority means conservatives would be powerless to stop the liberal agenda in the Senate. And, the consequences would be disastrous:

Liberal Supreme Court justices
Skyrocketing taxes
Higher gas prices
No new drilling
Giveaways to trial lawyers and Big Labor bosses

You know Dale I have to say I envy you. I see old movies and shows of the pre stupid (antiwar hippies) 60’s and there was an innocence and optimism lost.

I could picture L.A. in that time almost a paradise, today I think of L.A. I think of crime, illegals, traffic and stressful living. I am sure there is plenty of good places out there but it never be as nice as it was back in the 60’s.

I don’t know what is going on with society and I am not going to blame the next generation because they have no clue either but just twenty years ago the TV shows was clean and watchable and the music actually was music. I really hate to think what it is going to be like 40 years from now.

Well Arnie had a brief moment of sanity on Tuesday, vetoing the DREAM Act, Harvey Milk Day and Universal Health Care all in a row. Then it was back to his usual liberal Democrat self.

That's what the "he may be liberal, but at least he's better than Davis" crowd doesn't get -- no politician is wrong ALL the time. Arnold does what they want 20% of the time, so they claim he must be better than a RAT on the basis that a RAT would do what they want 20% of the time. Not true. Davis had his "good" days too. The old stopped clock is right twice a day rule. My Congresman did the "right" thing today when he voted against the bailout. That doesn't mean he's "better" than the Republican that didn't. Tomarrow he'll be back to his old Down-with-whitey, communist luvin' ways.

BTW, here's the breakdown of the California Republicans on the bailout:

Rohrabacher - ususally conservative, voted NO
Bilbray, often RINO except on immigration, voted NO
Doolittle, ususally conservative, voted NO
Gallegly, usually conservative, voted NO;
Hunter - stauch conservative, retiring, voted HELL NO
Issa, - strong conservative, voted NO
McCarthy - freshman congressman, voted NO
Nunes - usually conservative, voted NO
Royce - very srong conservative record, voted NO

Bono-Mack, moderate, up for-election, voted YES
Calvert, ususally conservative, voted YES
Campbell, establishment Republican, voted YES
Dreier, ususally conservative, voted YES
Herger, usually conservative, voted YES
Lewis - moderate conservative, same name as goofy comedian, voted YES
Lungren - establishment Republican, voted YES
McKeon - often conservative, voted YES
Miller - usually conservativd, voted YES
Radanovich - ususally consevative, voted YES

Now, how many of those CA Republicans voting "YES" are up for re-election? They're the ones we need to be calling and raising hell (while making sure the NO votes don't go wobbly)

The 30s, 40s, and 50s were much better than the 60s!

Of the 10 “Yes” voters you note, I see at least 3 of what might be referred to as gravy-train Republicans.

Doesn’t surprise me a bit that they’d be on the wrong side. They know how to get rich.

“Dreier, ususally conservative, voted YES”

Since when I knew him 30m years ago he has gone from extremely conservative to RINO liberal!

I’m suprised that area still votes for him.

“Bono-Mack, moderate, up for-election, voted YES”

She used to be conservative but since marrying Mack has become increasingly liberal.

>> Of the 10 “Yes” voters you note, I see at least 3 of what might be referred to as gravy-train Republicans. <<

That's kind of where I'd put Thune. He'll get 90% conservative ratings on scorecards because he votes the "right" way on foriegn policy, social issues, and tax cuts, but when it comes to pork and spending, he's a big-government conservative and loves his pork so much that he's willing to toss any conservative to the wolves who gets in the way of his latest pork project.

Better than an America-hating Democrat, but not the kind of person you'd want to promote for higher office.

Bilbray's turned out to very good considered his past as a RINO though.

I think her late husband Sonny was the conservative one in the family. Mary has always been a “moderate” on social issues. And the weird thing is that Connie Mack is generally conservative, so it’s not like she married into the Kennedy clan like Arnie...
