Battleground States: What Happens at Recount if Gov. & Secr. of State are of Different Parties?

Posted on 10/01/2008 12:56:11 PM PDT by BIOCHEMKY

What will happen if the state vote must be recounted in battleground states whose governors and secretaries of state have different political party affiliations?

Presently, the governors of 7 of 17 battleground states are of different party affiliation than their secretaries of state.

In the list of 17 "battleground" states listed below, the name of each state is followed by the governor's name which is followed by the secretary of state's name which is followed by recent polling data for that state.

They could follow the law. That would be different.

Nothing much happens other than what the SoS wants to happen. It’s an elected office in most states, and he/she doesn’t serve at the pleasure of the Governor. In my state, AZ, if there were issues of disagreement between the two over recounts, the SoS would tell the Gov to go pound sand.

We could possibly be screwed.

The democrats could manufactured a phoney reason to accept a different slate of electors, or challenge a slate, then both houses of Congress would have to vote on which slate to accept.

If the GOP takes back the House, and the Senate remains in the hands of Dems, the deciding vote would be determined by the Governor of the disputed state.

This election may not be over until Mid January.

The Democrat will attack the Republican as trying to disenfrancise voters with “tricks” like requiring an ID. Then there will be reports of police with dogs attempting to harass voters in predominantly african american areas.

The Republican’s first instinct will be to fight the frivolous charges. But they will receive a call from the McCain campaign to lay down and take it in the a**.

Subsequently, 0bama will declare victory and a MANDATE. Our little red books will follow in the mail shortly thereafter. Congratulations America!

Well, if it’s Jennifer Brunner, any ethical vote will be thrown out the window.

In that case you follow the famous "Washington Rule"

Keep recounting the votes until the Democrat has the lead, then stop counting.
