Items belonging to Steve Fossett, an aviator who's been missing for over a year, have been found by a California couple in the woods.
The couple was hiking in Mammoth Lakes, California, when they found FAA ID cards belonging to Steve Fossett - and police are saying the cards are not forged.
A search of the area has not turned up any further evidence of the pilot.
Steve Fossett, the commodities trader turned record-breaking aviator, was declared legally dead in February of this years, five months after he vanished while flying in Nevada.

(yes, as a matter of fact i DID only read the excerpt.)

I guess that’s what it would have to be. If a whole plane went down they should find some evidence, at least it would seem so. Interesting development.

Doesn’t seem that long does it? This is interesting because the Mammoth Lakes area is not all that far from where he took off.

The Mammoth Lakes area is very mountainous (High Sierras south of Lake Tahoe) and much timber. If this plane went down there it would be difficult to spot.

I’m not familiar with the area, do you think it’s likely they may still not fight the body/airplane?

I hope this provides the final clue that’s needed to find remnants of the wreckage, and hopefully even to recover some remains. Prayers up for the family and friends of Fossett to finally have closure on their mourning.

I am familiar with it. Saying “Mammoth” is a little like saying “Los Angeles.” The town isn’t that big - but was it by one of the back lakes? Which? How far back? Sherwin? Lost? Cloverleaf? If I could find that, I might tell you better.
I will say this: it’s October. If they want to search, they’d better move it, or they’ll have to continue next June or so.
