I waited an hour for CBS to post the video. No luck. I’m uploading my own cut so stand by for that; when their version goes up, I’ll swap it in. In the meantime, here’s the transcript. Remember, the rap on Palin is that she’s supposedly a “Christianist” nut ready to impose theocracy at the first opportunity. Here we learn that she supports contraception; doesn’t want to punish abortion with jail time; supports teaching evolution as “an accepted principle” and may very well oppose teaching creationism (it’s ambiguous); and reaffirms that she doesn’t judge gays, partly because she’s had a close friend who’s gay for decades.

This is the Palin that America needs to see. She is witty, warm, and GENUINE. She didn’t duck any of Courics questions, but she didn’t fall into any of the “gotcha’s” either. If she is this genuine and at ease at the debate, I only have one thing to say to Joe Biden...Be Afraid...be VERY afraid. She IS flyover country personified and makes sense, not just repeating Barry’s policy talking points. I am convinced she is the real deal.
The old stereotypes of conservatives bore me. They are such a diverse and brillant bunch the liberals end up stealing all the good ideas from them.

When was the last time 0bama gave a serious interview and gave serious answers (and not a speech or talking points)? All this talk about how Palin doesn’t give interviews and I hardly see 0bama give one. The only one I’ve seen was when he talked to O’Reilly. I think it’s time for him to man up and give some straight talk answers.

There are two things I especially like about Palin. First, she’s genuinely the ONLY person at the national level who can HONESTLY represent small-town and rural America, which is half of the country. I’m sick of all my Boston acquaintances who can’t hide their rampant bigotry with regard to people who live outside urban areas, and want to tell them what to do with their part of the country. Second, she’s the ONLY person in government I know who came into office and kicked the corrupt bastards in her OWN party out FIRST. Name me a Democrat, any Democrat, who can say they have done that. You can’t. She’s the real deal. God bless her and give her strength to endure the crap they shovel her way.
By the way, somebody tell me because I don’t watch them anymore, have any of the late-night comedians been able to think of an Obama joke yet?
Conservatives need to start treating the reporters as the active participants in the campaign that they are, and ask THEM questions, like, “So tell us, Katie, do you have any friends or social acquaintances who are actually conservatives? Have you ever met someone at a party who actually voted for a Republican? The people need to know.”

I was flipping thru the channels tonight and heard a woman on our favorite station, MSNBC, respond to another woman something to the effect that “anyone with an accent like that would appeal to Joe Six Pack”. I cannot believe the media anymore, they have sunk to the lowest levels possible.

Agreed. Sarah doesn't need to subject herself to the halfwits of the Old Media like Couric and Gibson.
She does need to be heard, natural and unedited, in interviews with people who are in favor of her (Rush, Hannity, others like that).
In this age of the Internet, she doesn't have to go through the Old Media. She just needs to talk on the record in public very often.
Sounds to me like Palin’s a social liberal.
