We should rejoice in the fact that our Congressional representation actually listened to us and not the corrupt party leadership as they defeated the bailout. We might have cut our own throats, but at least for once they listened.

They are only doing this because an election is imminent.

Even Democrats in close races were permitted to vote ‘NO’

Don’t think for a minute that a no vote is not what Pelosi wanted, a tanking economy will help an opposition candidate.

That’s right, we should rejoice. And my throat has not been cut.

They would probably listen more often if there offices were being flooded with phone calls and email. It doesn’t happen often enough.

It’s a victory and it should be shouted far and wide to remind people that we do have a choice. First Amnesty and now this.

Too bad we have to do it with our own side as much as we have to do it to the other.

A local congressman here (Costello)said that his emails were 100 to 1 against the bill.

Establishment country club republicans like Bush and McCain make a deal with devil (Pelosi and Frank) and beg congressional house members to throw themselves off a cliff to possibly help McCain and Bushes failed legacy. Repub House members were told to vote for a ‘trickle down’ bailout for investers when 2008 democratic theme is republicans ONLY care for the rich.

Why arent democrats putting up their and Obama’s proposal of capital gain tax increases, income and corparate tax increases, and welfare checks for those who DONT pay income taxes. Why are democrats not asked why they dont put up their own give-away election promises to solve this crisis. Why are democrats pushing trickle down???

No Sweat, GI—they’ll screw us again as soon as it is safe for ‘em to do so, and when they get the right deal—most likely when things seem to brew down and nobody cares anymore and gone on to the next perceived “crisis!”

“...Too bad we have to do it with our own side as much as we have to do it to the other.”

Unfortunately, it is highly likely that ‘our’ side is no longer represented by ‘them.’ ‘Our’ side wants, if general tone of posts/threads/fora are observed correctly, to not be taxed into oblivion, not have our tax dollars wasted on social nonsense, to have our sovereign territory protected, and generally remove government control/influence/impact from the daily conduct of our lives. We HAVE NO ADVOCATES IN GOVERNMENT WITH THE SAME OBJECTIVE. Government “service” has become lucrative at nearly all levels. Power, money, and influence is/are secuctive atractants for the ‘them’ that roam the halls.

The American experiment is dying, America Plan socialism is on the rise, and make no mistake, it will not have the core to stand against the imams, the bear, and the dragon.

ruefully,
top sends

I phoned my Congresswoman and let her know I was really proud that she stood for a free market. I listen to all of this mumbojumbo about credit and realize that all of this might mean it going back in time to where it was when I was a young woman. From all I can gather with my limited economic knowledge it seems to me that the majority of what the snakes in Washington are slithering to save are homes for people who can’t afford them, credit for people who have bad credit, etc etc. My biggest problem is that I find it hard to trust anyone in Washington, especially the liberal side. I only hope that the conservatives will hold against the new bill that will be drawn by the Democrats, and let them stand on their own. If Obama wins, it is a moot situation as he intends to change it to suit himself anyway. I am very, very proud of our Congress reps....no matter the scare....they stood up for us...for our country...and the belief in our free market.

I’ve got a good congressman who wouldn’t be there if I had listened to the “conventional wisdom” telling me I should vote for the RINO who he replaced.

I believe you, and am not suggesting you vote any way other than what your volition dictates. I am simply suggesting that the center is weakening...badly.

meaning that we might tank the economy...

I don’t think so but I have no way of knowing the outcome of no bailout.

YES ABSOLUTELY IT IS A CRISIS.

The reason it is a crisis is that these mortgages or the CMO's and CDO's form the asset base for banks. The value of those securities are almost non-existent now and that means the banks don't have enough assets to guarantee the deposits they are holding.

If their asset/deposit ratio gets too low the FDIC has to step in and take over. If the FDIC takes over too many banks it will fail. If people start to fear that their money is not safe they will run take their money out of banks. If they start doing that we are FINISHED. There is no where near enough money in banks to withstand large withdrawals.

We must fix this crisis. This is not a drill. This is not a hoax. If we do not fix this, there will be no economy and even those who are piously proud of their fiscal responsibility will be BROKE.

If the banks fail, even those with savings are lost. If their is rapid inflation or deflation the money they have saved will go up in smoke. This is not a simple, or shallow concept. Even if you don't understand it, it is very very very dangerous for each and every citizen of the US and even the rest of the world.

The federal reserve and the banking system is a house of cards that would be nice to fix. But right now we have to work with what we have allowed to be built. The entire house of cards is teetering and may fail no matter what we do.

Whatever you do, do not listen to those who say, "let it fall."

I think it becomes most obvious in election years. Look how many are voting for and promoting McCain despite the fact that they despise him.

Anyone stop to think that “our” position on the bail out bill is the same as Micheal Moore and the Black Caucus?
If the US has a depression the Republican party will spend another 40 years in the wilderness. I don't like the bill either, but there we are.
