Here’s another observation about McCain: every time he sets foot in DC his old thought processes kick in. When he’s out stumping in flyover country, he returns to conservatism.

So all we have to do to win an election is to put our grandchildren in debt to the tune of $1 trillion

The cost of letting this problem fester will make the 700 billion seem like pocket change. We lost 1.4 TRILLION in equity yesterday, and thats just the start.

Congratulations Right-Wing Nuts, on torpedoing the McCain campaign, and getting Obama elected, and probably a huge Dem majority in both houses. Well done, morons.

BWAHAHAHAHAHA!!!

McCain needs to wake up from his sleep. Now Obama is stealing the "right-wing nut" plan and pushing it on the campaign trail!!! LOLOL!!!!

So McCain trashes the "right wing" and Obama steals their ideas.... seems like you and McCain need a big cup of coffee!!!

You have a point. And it’s certainly not the right time to beat up on 90% of voters.

I agree with you. This election is showing how McCain is a worker bee. He does get things done. The only problem is I think he got out-maneuvered by Pelosi. It could be possible though as another poster mentioned, that McCain wanted the Bill defeated. If so, then he really is a hero. He has a lot of character if he wanted Pelosi to do what she did. He is a real warrior. He really does have principals.

Look at the credit markets this AM. Check out what the rate is for bank to bank loans.

You are not in favor of the bailout. You believe that Pelosi screwed McCain.

Those views are really contradictory. If you could control Pelosi and her management of the vote what would you do? Would you have the Dems vote YES and pass the bill that you don't want? That would please McCain and you would be unhappy with the result.

I'm not criticizing your view. It is the predominant view here on FR. But, IMHO, it is an irrational view. Either we are for the bailout or we aren't. I don't know where we stand.

“The problem with this analysis is that you have to explain why Pelosi did something that most on FR and most of our Talk Radio Friends wanted her to do.”

It is entirely possible that both sides of the aisle wanted the bill to fail for different reasons.

The reasons why Cons wanted it to fail are known to us: do not give the government additional power over the private sector, and do not use taxpayer money to fix this problem.

Why would liberal powers want it to fail?

To keep the economy sputtering, which helps the dems in their march to the WH. Everyone knew the market would plunge in the absence of a quick fix. It did. That doesnt help Mccain’s chances.

What's missing here is the correct time frame.

Nothing in this article says McCain took credit for yesterday's vote, only bringing his considerable gravitas to the issue, which isn't resolved by a long shot.

The Dems had 4 good days by lying and distorting reality.

McCain will have 4 good weeks by seizing this issue.

“All I ask is that we question why we find ourselves on the same side of the equation with a known witch.”

What should we do? I thought McCain was helping make the bill more conservative. That’s all any of us asked for. I still hope that’s true. Should we ask that the bill be more liberal to distance ourselves from Pelosi?

Only fools follow the daily market and try to judge how good it is doing. The smart money goes in for the long haul and ignores the ups and downs of the market roller coaster.

I don’t think McCain or many people anywhere understand what the bill would really have done. To some it may have seemed like a good thing.

Nevertheless, the world did not come to an end overnight and the trillion that was lost when the stocks dropped 7% yesterday was surely not missed by me. The DOW this morning before the bell was up by 150 points. Nobody tore their hair out when the market went up a trillion a while back.

Best thing for McCain would be to stay on the sidelines and wait to see how things shake out. When even 40% of the Democratic Congressmen along with most of the Republicans also voted against it, the bill isn’t a good thing.

I hate breaking this to you, but the $700 billion bailout is nothing but a plan to let this thing fester!!!

Have you heard anyone say that this bailout is the solution to our economic problems? No you haven't.

Everyone says, "we need this to stop the bleeding, and we'll all come back in January, and we promise that that is when we'll deal with our economic problems."

DO YOU SERIOUSLY BELIEVE THE DEMS ARE GOING TO FIX THIS PROBLEM IN JANUARY?!?

If you believe that then you are a fool, sir/mam.....

The smart money has run to the exits and is buying T bills so fast they have almost no yield.

Right, you read me so well, I’m mad because I’m an Obama supporter and he’s only skyrocketing in the polls now. You are too stupid to have political opinions do you know that? You guys called your congressmen and killed a bill which might have allowed McCain to get elected. Instead now we have a crashed market, and only populist solutions to problems. By killing this bill you ADVANCED the cause of Socialism, you didn’t set it back. But you’ll see. Idiots.

The current flight is scared, dumb money.

"It is entirely possible that both sides of the aisle wanted the bill to fail for different reasons."

At last, someone recognizes the truth of the matter.

But the real problem remains. One side is right and the other side is wrong. For me the issue is who wins the election. Is that what we are focused on? I'm not sure about us but I'm sure about Pelosi. She is focused on Obama becoming President of the United States. So the real question to ask is did the vote help McCain or Obama. I think it helped Obama. And if we lose this election the "Bailout Bill of 2008" will be the least of our problems.
