Iowa Senator Tom Harkins lead over Republican challenger Jack Reed has dropped 10 points this month, but he is still poised to handily win his bid for re-election in November.
The latest Rasmussen Reports telephone survey in the Hawkeye State finds Harkin ahead 54% to 40%. This is the incumbents smallest lead since tracking of the race began in June.
Last month, Harkin led 58% to 34%. He is currently seeking his fifth term in the Senate. In his last re-election bid, Harkin beat his Republican opponent, Greg Ganske, 54% to 44%. Reed is a Navy veteran and businessman.

And we keep sending the same retreads back to Congress. Tom must be ‘deliverin’ the pork’ for Iowa.

Harkin’s lead has slipped significantly. Does anybody know what’s happening in Iowa?

I wonder if these geniuses actually used “Jack Reed” as the challenger’s name in the poll. His name is Chris.

Hard to believe there are so many stupid people in Iowa. Or maybe they just don’t care about America.

Good point!
But what has happened? Is Reed spending a lot of his own money or has Harkin committed some kind of gaffe? He has lost ground in the past few weeks.

IA people think Harkin is a “populist” because he tells off some Republican “big shots” from time to time. They have no knowledge after all these years of his radical voting record, but they claim to have one of the best public education systems in the country. Maybe they do, but they don’t teach political analysis in the IA schools. It’s too bad Roger Jepsen was such an ineffective candidate in 1984. We will pay for Jepsen’s failures from time immemorial.

Reed doesn't have any money, and has zero media presence, at least in my part of the state. I haven't heard much from the dung heap. So I don't know where the movement comes from.
