Thank you for posting this. My husband and I lived out there after we got married 41 years ago and our son was born there at Munson Army Hospital. I worked at the Command and General Staff College for awhile and loved it. This brought back a lot of memories. Would like to go back for a visit.

A PRAYER OF PROTECTION
The light of God surround you The love of God enfold you The power of God protect you The presence of God watch over you Wherever you are, God is, And all is well. Amen.
BLESS THIS HOUSE Bless this house O Lord we pray; Make it safe by night and day;
Bless these walls so firm and stout, Keeping want and trouble out:
Bless the roof and chimneys tall, Let thy peace lie over all;
Bless this door, that it may prove ever open to joy and love.
Bless these windows shining bright, Letting in God's heav'nly light;
Bless the hearth a'blazing there, with smoke ascending like a prayer;
Bless the folk who dwell within, keep them pure and free from sin;
Bless us all that we may be Fit O Lord to dwell with thee;
Bless us all that one day we May dwell O Lord with thee.

That You May Know
These things I have written to you who believe in the name of the Son of God, that you may know that you have eternal life. 1 John 5:13
One day, while Wim was in the marketplace in the Netherlands, he struck up a conversation with a woman who remarked that you can get to heaven by doing good works.
His attempt to explain that it is by Gods grace that we are saved through faith (Eph. 2:8) brought a smile as the woman repeated confidently: and . . . by doing good works. Then another woman volunteered, You can hope youll go to heaven, but you cant be sure. Wims assertion that he did know for sure was met with a muttered, Nobody knows for sure.
Wim then showed the woman what 1 John 5:11-13 says. He explained: See, it doesnt say hope there, it says know. Unconvinced, she said, Like you, my pastor says that we have to have faith, but you really never know whether youve been good enough. You may think you have, but who can be sure?
To some, Wims confidence may seem incredible. But he based his words on this statement: For by grace you have been saved through faith, and that not of yourselves; it is the gift of God, not of works (Eph. 2:8-9).
Its true. We cant be good enough. We can never do enough good things. But we can be sure of heaven if we simply believe on the Lord (Acts 16:31).
We cannot earn our way to heaven
By word or work or worth;
But if we trust in Christ to save us,
Then well enjoy new birth. Branon

This Day in U.S. Military History September 30
1938 - Adolf Hitler, Benito Mussolini, French Premier Edouard Daladier, and British Prime Minister Neville Chamberlain sign the Munich Pact, which seals the fate of Czechoslovakia, virtually handing it over to Germany in the name of peace.
Upon return to Britain, Chamberlain would declare that the meeting had achieved "peace in our time." Although the agreement was to give into Hitler's hands only the Sudentenland, that part of Czechoslovakia where 3 million ethnic Germans lived, it also handed over to the Nazi war machine 66 percent of Czechoslovakia's coal, 70 percent of its iron and steel, and 70 percent of its electrical power. It also left the Czech nation open to complete domination by Germany. In short, the Munich Pact sacrificed the autonomy of Czechoslovakia on the altar of short-term peace-very short term. The terrorized Czech government was eventually forced to surrender the western provinces of Bohemia and Moravia (which became a protectorate of Germany) and finally Slovakia and the Carpathian Ukraine. In each of these partitioned regions, Germany set up puppet, pro-Nazi regimes that served the military and political ends of Adolf Hitler. By the time of the invasion of Poland in September 1939, the nation called "Czechoslovakia" no longer existed.
It was Neville Chamberlain who would be best remembered as the champion of the Munich Pact, having met privately with Hitler at Berchtesgaden, the dictator's mountaintop retreat, before the Munich conference. Chamberlain, convinced that Hitler's territorial demands were not unreasonable (and that Hitler was a "gentleman"), persuaded the French to join him in pressuring Czechoslovakia to submit to the Fuhrer's demands. Upon Hitler's invasion of Poland a year later, Chamberlain was put in the embarrassing situation of announcing that a "state of war" existed between Germany and Britain. By the time Hitler occupied Norway and Denmark, Chamberlain was finished as a credible leader. "Depart, I say, and let us have done with you!" one member of Parliament said to him, quoting Oliver Cromwell. Winston Churchill would succeed him as prime minister soon afterwards.
