We will hear stories about how the House GOP caused this bill to fail. But 34% of House GOP voted for the bailout plan. This "bi-partisan no-vote" was due to the surprising number of House DEMs who voted against the plan.
Interesting breakdown. We actually have some moonbats like Sheila Jackson Lee voting against it and some good guys like Tom Tancredo voting for it. But since there is only a dozen votes to flip to reverse the outcome, I suspect this is NOT the end of it.
Maybe the 41% is mad because the bill as presently constituted doesn’t directly fund their ACORN brownshirts. With billions of dollars to play with ACORN would have become at least the equivalent of that older organization but with far more resources.
How far to the left can they shift this bill to attract the DEM dissenters on the left before conservative DEMs and some of the GOP vote against it? Regardless, Pelosi is not getting a bipartisan mandate vote out of the House.
Do you think if they had a more liberal plan then it would pass? It is going to be some very interesting days ahead.

The Bill Title reads ‘To amend the Internal Revenue Code of 1986 to provide earnings assistance and tax relief to members of the uniformed services, volunteer firefighters, and Peace Corps volunteers, and for other purposes’
I realize that bill get named to disguise the true intent, but that isn’t even close.

H.R.3997 is a "shell," a mere vehicle for the Emergency Economic Recovery Act of 2008. H.R.3997 was promulgated in 2007, and has been kicking around for months, with some version of it being passed by both House and Senate. This vehicle was picked in order to avoid procedural pitfalls that adhere to a "new" bill, such as "objection to a motion to proceed to the consideration" which would otherwise be available in the Senate.

I do. I'm not sure that what direction it will go, but it's certainly possible that more pork will be added to draw in the liberals, and the GOP won't object, out of fear, instilled by Paulson and Bush, that the economy will crash if they don't agree.
She was echoing what majority leader Boehner said - that the bill would have passed if Pelosi hadn't given that nasty speech. IOW, that Pelosi's nasty speech caused sufficient Republicans to change their vote, and swing the ultimate outcome. That assertion is a Republican assertion, made by minority leader Boehner before Pelosi "blamed it on Republicans."
This is the way this is going to be irresponsibly reported on the MSM... McCain and the Republicans need to stand strong and remind America that this is a Democrat controlled House and it was a failure of the Democrats to get more than 60% of their Members behind this Democrat Bill...
I would LOVE to see a list of how those who have to face the voters in barely a month as opposed to those who are still a couple years away from an election. My senses tell me those who are up to bat Nov. 4th had a remarkably different to this problem from those who are safe for now. If that’s the case then it just shows once again how effective term limits would be if applied by the voters much more frequently!
Donald Trump was just on Neil Cavuto. Donald was happy the bailout was voted down. He said oil prices would go down to $20.00-$30.00 and the economy would straighten itself out if they would leave things alone. If it’s good enough for Trump, it’s good enough for me.
Btw, I can’t watch Cavuto anymore. He let an Obama spokesman say that McCain didn’t hold up his end by bringing in the Republican votes. And, Neil said nothing. The Dems didn’t want him and now they blame him.
Congressmen face voters every two years & this is the year, so the answer to your question is 100%. A better question to ask would be how many in “unsafe” districts voted for it.
Pelosi tried to get through on a minimum no of Dem votes so to protect Dems that could be put out by voting for the bailout, it backfired spectacularly when the Repubs called her game, realised what she was up to and voted accordingly to embarrass the hell out of her.
In looking at the Dem ‘Nay’ votes I noticed that many members of the Black Congressional Caucus were present in large numbers, incl. Conyers, Jackson(IL), Johnson(GA), Lewis(GA), Jackson-Lee, Jefferson(LA), Clay(MO), Scott(VA), Cummings(MD), ...
I did notice that Rangle, Waters & Ellison(MN) voted Yea, but had the BCC all voted Yea, the bill would have passed.
Why didn’t Obama weigh in with these members to get the bill passed, especially Chicago’s own Jesse Jackson Jr.?
