CBC News apologized Sunday for publishing a column about Republican vice-presidential candidate Sarah Palin, conceding that it was "viciously personal."
More than 300 people complained to the CBC ombudsman about a column that ran on Sept. 5 on CBCNews.ca by award-winning freelance writer Heather Mallick.
The article, "A mighty wind blows through Republican convention," reportedly said Ms. Palin was chosen to appease the party's "rural," "unlettered" "white trash" base and said that the vice-presidential nominee looked like a "porn actress."
CBC News publisher John Cruickshank said in a letter that the public broadcaster erred in judgment.

It ain't gonna be very easy for the CBC to dig themselves out from the hole they've made for themselves because of Mallick's little temper tantrum.
CBC will be adding writers from other communist nations.
Ain't that the Truth!
Please excuse the minor reference to the X-Files.
We don’t accept it.
Yup, and as barack gestapobama would say, "Words mean something," but what that something is, it sure ain't always the truth.
By issuing this apology, the CBC must've really taken it in the shorts. I doubt anyone expected them to do this in the first place.
“CBC News apologized Sunday ...”
Oh yeah. Punch below the belt, then apologize ... like it’s supposed to make things better?!!
Gee and I thought it was just a piece of refuse.
Let me know when that CNN Asshat Cafferty apologizes, and I’ll reject that, too!

Heather Mallick
Apology rejected.
We will think about accepting an apology only after the witch is fired.
What's funny is that Sarah (the target of the smear) suffered no damage from the article at all, but the CBC must have suffered a lot of damage if they felt compelled to issue this apology.

Hi fellow babblers
Thank you for being so civilized, even if you disagree. I called Palin “white trash” (why? because she is white and she is trash, and she thinks raped incest victims should bear their dad’s baby, don’t get me started ...)
God knows what’s happening to John Doyle for having called Palin an Alaskan hillbilly, but I am getting hundreds of emails from the American south. My husband vets all my email for death threats and he comes in with my coffee in the morning, saying “The consensus in West Virginia is that you are a f——— c-—. In the Caroliinas, however, you are a lonely lesbian. The coffee this morning is organic fair trade Costa Rican.” Then he laughs quietly to himself in his British way.

Update 2: Heather Mallick asks-
Ever wonder why the left never succeeds in Canada?
While you are all debating small delicate things about whether I am a nasty piece of work and should I receive your guarded approval or limited hatred, here’s what I’m up against, out of hundreds of racist, women-hating, sick emails I received today on my website, admittedly almost entirely from Americans.

We erred in our editorial judgment. You told us in no uncertain terms. And we have learned from it.
******
Obviously not, since the witch is still employed.
It doesn't look like the judge (which in this case is the readers) ain't gonna allow it.
MICHAEL COREN:
“Mallick’s defence is one of freedom of speech. Yet last year I was approached by the editor of a newspaper called The Women’s Post and asked if I would write a column for her, providing what publisher Sarah Thomson called “a conservative voice.” She explained that she already had plenty of liberal writers but wanted some balance.”
“One of those left-wing writers employed by The Women’s Post was Mallick. When she heard about me being offered a column she became extraordinarily angry and threatened to resign. The good people at The Women’s Post called the enraged journalist’s bluff and it was goodbye to our control freak comrade. So when Mallick’s defenders cry about unfettered expression and the right to offend they ought to know of whom they speak.”
Broder is just exemplifying the phenomenon that Bernie Goldberg wrote about in Bias: The journalist are unable to see their own bias, they are like fish and their own biases are like the water in which they swim, they are completely clueless about their own mental environments.
Canadian columnist’s diatribe against Palin stokes anger in the U.S.
Sep 20, 2008
WASHINGTON Canadian journalist Heather Mallick is facing an ugly onslaught from the U.S. right-wing media and its fans for an online column she wrote maligning Sarah Palin as “white trash.”
The Sept. 5 column on CBC.ca, entitled “A Mighty Wind Blows Through the Republican Convention,” had already been on the receiving end of vitriol from some Canadian news organizations.
But Fox News picked up on it this week, and unleashed its full fury on Mallick for stating that Palin, the Republicans’ vice-presidential nominee, appeals to “the white trash vote” with her “toned-down version of the porn actress look.”
Mallick says those comments pale in comparison to the abuse that’s come her way in the wake of the column. She’s been called a “pig” by Fox News anchor Greta Van Susteren.
LOL! Yup, the CBC ain't the masters of their own domain!
