McCain and Team Have Many Ties to Gambling Industry
NY TImes ^ | 9/27/08 | Jo Becker

Senator John McCain was on a roll. In a room reserved for high-stakes gamblers at the Foxwoods Resort Casino in Connecticut, he tossed $100 chips around a hot craps table. When the marathon session ended around 2:30 a.m., the Arizona senator and his entourage emerged with thousands of dollars in winnings.

A lifelong gambler, Mr. McCain takes risks, both on and off the craps table. He was throwing dice that night not long after his failed 2000 presidential bid, in which he was skewered by the Republican Party’s evangelical base, opponents of gambling. Mr. McCain was betting at a casino he oversaw as a member of the Senate Indian Affairs Committee, and he was doing so with the lobbyist who represents that casino, according to three associates of Mr. McCain.

The visit had been arranged by the lobbyist, Scott Reed, who works for the Mashantucket Pequot, a tribe that has contributed heavily to Mr. McCain’s campaigns and built Foxwoods into the world’s second-largest casino. Joining them was Rick Davis, Mr. McCain’s current campaign manager. Their night of good fortune epitomized not just Mr. McCain’s affection for gambling, but also the close relationship he has built with the gambling industry and its lobbyists during his 25-year career in Congress.

As a two-time chairman of the Indian Affairs Committee, Mr. McCain has done more than any other member of Congress to shape the laws governing America’s casinos, helping to

I’m not even a McCain fan, but this is getting pathetic. They need to declare this as in-kind donations to Obama

Wow, they wasted a lot of space explaning that McCain is a politician and has the power to decide things.

I guess you’re not Mr Maverick when it comes to wearing a tie, Senator. You wear ties just like all the other Senators.

When the marathon session ended around 2:30 a.m., the Arizona senator and his entourage emerged with thousands of dollars in winnings.

This is an outrageous implication. As a Nevadan (non-native), I am fairly well versed in the ways of gaming. To imply that McCain (or anyone, for that matter) could be bribed through a good night at the tables is not only libelous, but utterly ridiculous.

And where is the story about Obama’s ties to the Muslim/Islamic world? His attempt to pass off fake birth credentials to try and qualify to be president? His ties to Rezko (ORGANIZED CRIME)? His ties to seditious and treasonous people like Wright? His ties to unrepentant TERRORISTS?

Hey MSM...where are THOSE stories?

Looks like the new theme memo has been received: McCain is an impulsive risk-taker, a dangerous gambler.

Risky moves could define McCain's leadership

It’s amazing how much credibility the NYT and the rest of the MSM have lost. Some day they might report a true news story, yet no one will pay attention because they have cried wolf by reporting so much BS in the past.

Doesn’t surprise me one bit. Back in 2004, the NYT went wall-t0-wall hit pieces with Bush for the last 30 days. Be prepared Freepers, for more NYT Dem-biased propaganda pieces in the future...this is just a taste of things to come before Nov 4.

I wonder how long the New York Times sat on this story to release it close to the election? And now many more “scandals” like this are they sitting on?
