God bless you guys, we need you. You're our last great hope before the Democrats and RINOs push us all in and plunge us into full blown socialism.

Hang tough!!

By the way, just heard on FOX News something about the committees working on this bailout bill just had their Blackberries confiscated so they can't communicate with the outside world. I pray I misheard that.

“...and 95% of Americans are against it!!”

Why wouldn’t we be? If this isn’t a case of “taxation without representation” I don’t know what is! Heavenly Father, please give those two men the strength and spirit of Moses and Elijah! They are upholding the truth, and let them know that You are there with them!

I'm mad as h@!! in Southwest Virginia. Wrote my Congressman (John Warner) and Rep (Rick Boucher) to let them know I'm ready for the pitchforks, if they leave us (the tax payers of this republic) with the bill on this boondoggle. No ACORN, no cash handouts, and let some sunshine in on the shenanigans at Fannie and Freddie. Warner should be on the Hill, supporting his conservative brothers in the House.

I hate to suggest this, especially since it would be very difficult for me to participate myself, but is there a possibility of a spontaneous public rally in DC to voice our opposition to the plan? I mean, that’s normally a liberal tactic, but if it’s true that Pelosi and Reid have deliberately shut off communications with the world, then I think it’s time for some grassroots uprising. I worry that a deal may be in place by tomorrow night. Hopefully, McCain and the House Republicans will hang tough and not sign onto it. Part of the problem is that conservatives work and liberals, by and large, do not. Conseequently, a conservative rally is something of a rarity, but this may be the time.

Remember, the Dems only need a simple majority to push this through (a supermajority is not needed for this type of bill)—they only want R support in order to provide political cover. I say, NO WAY, NO HOW, NO BAILOUT—this message must be driven home to McCain, loud and clear. If the Dems want this so bad, then let them take full responsibility for it. I know that means they will load it up with earmarks and ACORN subsidies; that’s when we need to make Bush understand that he must veto it, even though it’s his own bill. Right now, he has placed NO limits on what crap can be put in. Bush is not the bad guy here—he is being led around by Paulson and for once, Bush’s loyalty has got to be cut off. Only we conservatives have a chance to save the party. What do you all think?

I think it is time we all take a moment to pray for our country.

I do...a lot. I pray that the Lord will kick all the ones out of office that won't listen to him and send them back to their states.

My understanding of the procedural rules is that this is an extraordinary session since there’s been no actual bill that’s been introduced by either house. It appears that they are doing this backwards by, in effect, having an ersatz conference committee work on draft legislation that would be introduced in both houses. I don’t know how they can suspend the rules to prevent the rebel Republicans from introducing amendments in the House version. I also don’t know if there’s enough Republican opposition in the Senate to mount a filibuster.

At any rate, Pelosi and Reid would both have to get majorities to suspend the rules and squelch debate, once the bills reach the floors of the respective houses. I wish I were an expert on such things, but my understanding is that, short of suspending the rules allowing debate (i.e., throwing the modified Roberts Rules that both houses have adopted), they must allow debate to take place and they must allow amendments to be introduced (and voted up or down each time). That will bring this thing out in the open.

In other words, if I am correct, the only way for Pelosi and Reid to shove any version of this trash down the public’s throat without debate would require at least a public debate on suspending the rules. That by itself would mark a watershed moment in American history—a public debate on preventing the voice of the people to be heard through their elected representatives. Even more remarkable that this would take place on a measure that the American public, liberal and conservative, is opposed to by a 7-3 majority, at least. In other words, they risk insurrection. And also, I think by this point every person who has been paying attention is fully aware of the doomsday scenario that a full-blown financial collapse entails and they are still opposed to the plan.

It is the first time I have ever feared for the future of this great Republic—much more so than 9/11, as that at least momentarily a time of unity. Now I know why the phrase, “may you live in interesting times,” is supposed to be a curse.

Dems Want to Reward Scandal-Tarnished “Community Organizing” Group in Economic Rescue Bill

House GOP Fights to Remove ACORN Slush Fund from Economic Rescue Bill; Poison-Pill Proposal Would Ask Taxpayers to Bankroll Group Accused of Voter Fraud Nationwide

Washington, Sep 27 - House Republicans have made clear that they will fight for an economic rescue package that protects the interests of families, seniors, small businesses, and all taxpayers.

And as discussions continue in order to forge an agreement that reflects these principles, the American people are taking note of a left-wing giveaway Democrats are pushing to force taxpayers to bankroll a slush fund for a discredited ally of the Democratic Party.

At issue is the Association of Community Organizations for Reform Now – better known as ACORN – an organization fraught with controversy for, among other scandals, its fraudulent voter registration activities on behalf of Democratic candidates.

Here are just some examples of ACORN’s most recent scandals and unlawful activities:

- “ACORN is a long-time advocacy group with whom Obama was once associated. Recently, though, ACORN workers in two states have pleaded guilty to election fraud, an unlikely recipient of federal largess.” (Fox News Report, 9/26/08)

- “Seven ACORN workers were charged with ‘committing the biggest voter-registration fraud in [Washington] state history.’’ (The Seattle Times, 7/26/07)

- ACORN workers submitted “just over 1,800 new voter registration forms, but there was a problem. The names were made up – all but six of the 1,800 submissions were fakes… The ACORN workers told state investigators that they went to the Seattle public library, sat at a table and filled out the voter registration forms.

They made up names, addresses, and Social Security numbers and in some cases plucked names from the phone book. One worker said it was a lot of hard work making up all those names and another said he would sit at home, smoke marijuana and fill out the forms.” (Fox News Channel, 5/02/08)

- “Late last year, a handful of Acorn canvassers in Washington state admitted that they had falsified voter registrations by illegally filling out hundreds of forms with names such as Dennis Hastert, Leon Spinks and Fruito Boy Crispila.” (Wall Street Journal, 7/31/08)

- “Eight workers for a get-out-the-vote effort in St. Louis city and county have pleaded guilty to federal election fraud for submitting false registration cards for the 2006 election, authorities said today. The workers were employed by the Association of Community Organizations for Reform Now (ACORN), gathering voter registrations.” (Associated Press, 4/02/08)

- “Acorn has had a number of missteps. This month its founder, Wade Rathke, resigned after news emerged that his brother Dale had embezzled nearly $1 million from Acorn and affiliated groups eight years ago — information the group kept from law-enforcement authorities and most members. Dale Rathke left the organization only last month.” (Wall Street Journal, 7/31/08)

So how exactly will ACORN be rewarded if the Democrats get their way?

Very simple: behind closed doors, ACORN-friendly language was slipped into the Democratic economic rescue proposal by Senate Banking Committee Chairman Chris Dodd (D-CT) and House Financial Services Committee Chairman Barney Frank (D-MA). Take a look:

TRANSFER OF A PERCENTAGE OF PROFITS.

1. DEPOSITS. Not less than 20 percent of any profit realized on the sale of each troubled asset purchased under this Act shall be deposited as provided in paragraph (2).

2. USE OF DEPOSITS. Of the amount referred to in paragraph (1)

1. 65 percent shall be deposited into the Housing Trust Fund established under section 1338 of the Federal Housing Enterprises Regulatory Reform Act of 1992 (12 U.S.C. 4568); and

2. 35 percent shall be deposited into the Capital Magnet Fund established under section 1339 of that Act (12 U.S.C. 4569).

REMAINDER DEPOSITED IN THE TREASURY. All amounts remaining after payments under paragraph (1) shall be paid into the General Fund of the Treasury for reduction of the public debt.

What does this mean? The Wall Street Journal breaks it down in an editorial published today:

“What we have here essentially are a pair of government slush funds created in July as part of the Economic Recovery Act that pump tax dollars into the coffers of low-income housing advocacy groups, such as Acorn.”

“Acorn, one of America’s most militant left-wing ‘community activist groups,’ is spending $16 million this year to register Democrats to vote in November. In the past several years, Acorn’s voter registration programs have come under investigation in Ohio, Colorado, Michigan, Missouri and Washington, while several of their employees have been convicted of voter fraud…”

That’s right. Rather than returning any profits made in the long-term from the economic rescue package, Democrats want to first reward their radical allies at ACORN for their help – often illegal help – in getting Democrats elected to office. Families, seniors, small businesses, and all American taxpayers deserve better than what Democratic leaders are attempting to jam down their throats.

The rescue package should not become a “Christmas tree” for the Democratic Majority’s far-left wing political agenda that seeks to shower taxpayer dollars upon groups like ACORN.

On behalf of beleaguered taxpayers across the nation, House Republicans will continue to fight to remove the ACORN payback and any other Democratic poison pills from the economic rescue package.

I never thought I would see the day where this would happen in my country.

Lenin et., al. promised "they" would destroy us through our own systems and processes.

It will not happen, if we can still communicate with each other (despite Obama's commissars - see Missouri). But, it's a fine idea to stock up on Bibles, guns and ammo -- in case things do get "bitter."

The Declaration of Independence still trumps.

If we all get the word out, that the Socialists' "Community Reinvestment Act" and Barack Obama's ACORN is behind this mortgage system collapse -- and that the Democrats want to legally embezzle our money to fund ACORN through the socialist fix -- we will win this election. And we may even win the House of Representatives.

(1) The Paulson Bailout package is national suicide.

Trust the people and not the experts. This situation is unique in that it is the "experts" who are madly panicing. Citizens and taxpayers are calm, and trust in the marketplace.

Fix the marketplace by restoring common sense and financial and fiduciary accountabilty. That means undoing the poisons of forcing good banks to lend to bad debtors, and the corruptions of a behemoth federal buyer of such bad paper.

(2) Re measureing debate performance on the basis of the undecided ...

Undecideds are idiots. I'd be more interested in bringing onboard the Reagan Dems, then worrying about the brain-damaged vote.

(3) Obama is a Stalin. He has made that clear in speech and action and associations. He will break us with the jackboot of vile police agents like those in Missouri and shut down free speech in many many ways. Stalin.

But when a long Train of Abuses and Usurpations, pursuing invariably the same Object, evinces a Design to reduce them under absolute Despotism, it is their Right, it is their Duty, to throw off such Government, and to provide new Guards for their future Security. Such has been the patient Sufferance of these Colonies; and such is now the Necessity which constrains them to alter their former Systems of Government.

My prayer is that it will not come to pass again.

Does anyone else here have great concern about how all of these meetings are held behind closed doors?

Yes. These are our "representatives" who are standing in for each one of us in a debate that concerns each one of us. I am not sure King George (of Revolutionary War fame) would not be blushing at their audacity.
