Paul Newman has finished chemotherapy and has told his family he wants to die at home.
It was reported Friday that Newman, 83, had only weeks to live and had returned home to his wife, Joanne Woodward.
The Oscar-winning actor was pictured being pushed from a New York cancer hospital in a wheelchair.
“Paul didn’t want to die in the hospital,” a source said. “Joanne and his daughters are beside themselves with grief.”

The source, described as a close family friend, said that the star had spent the past few weeks getting his affairs in order.
It was claimed that some of Newman’s actions had caused tension among of his children.
“He gave a prized car a Ferrari with his racing number, 82, on it to a long-time pal,” the friend said. “The sudden move angered his children. It’s especially hard for them to come to grips with what’s going on.
Newman married Woodward in 1958 and the couple have three daughters. He also has two daughters from his first marriage to Jackie Witte.
It was reported last month that he had been readying their oldest child, Nell, to take over his Newman’s Own salad dressings company, the profits of which are given to a charitable foundation.
Agreed. And anything with Charlotte Rampling in it is always worth a peek...
Butch and Sundance. Still one of the very best films to come out of Hollywood. Safe journey, Mr. Newman.
For those that don’t know, courtesy of Wikipedia:
Newman is an avid auto racing enthusiast, and first became interested in motorsports (”the first thing that I ever found I had any grace in”) while training for and filming Winning, a 1969 film.
Newman’s first professional event was in 1972, in Thompson, Connecticut. He ran the 24 hours of Le Mans once in 1979 and finished second in a Porsche 935 of Dick Barbour.
From the mid-’70s to the early ‘90s, he drove for the Bob Sharp Racing team, racing mainly Nissans. He became heavily associated with the brand during the ‘80s, even appearing in commercials for them. At the age of 70, he became the oldest driver to be part of a winning team in a major sanctioned race, the 24 Hours of Daytona in 1995. Newman told an Associated Press journalist in March 2005 that he’ll “probably race for another year”.
Newman co-founded Newman/Haas/Lanigan Racing with Carl Haas, a Champ Car team, in 1983. He is also a partner in the Atlantic Championship team Newman Wachs Racing. The 1996 racing season was chronicled in the IMAX film Super Speedway, which Newman narrates. His team Newman/Haas/Lanigan announced a partnership with Robert Yates Racing of the NASCAR Nextel Cup Series, but that partnership collapsed when Yates announced his retirement from racing in September 2007.
There is only one real Hollywood racer/actor left - James Garner. With him will go a great era.
A few actors stand out as having depth and character. He was one of that few. He was infected with the usual Hollywood left-wing biases, but he led a decent life. May he Rest in Peace.

A great one has passed.
RIP
Rest in Peace
A class act all the way. RIP Reggie Dunlop. May he reach the ice rink in the sky before you can say Jack Robinson.
Exactly! Acting was in JOB and he worked to perfect his craft. Paul Newman is the real deal.
Slapshot bump.
RIP Paul, thank-you for all that you had done.
“They brought their f-cking toys!”
From Cool Hand Luke, one of Newman’s defining roles:
He was smiling... That’s right. You know, that, that Luke smile of his. He had it on his face right to the very end. Hell, if they didn’t know it ‘fore, they could tell right then that they weren’t a-gonna beat him. That old Luke smile. Oh, Luke. He was some boy. Cool Hand Luke. Hell, he’s a natural-born world-shaker.
Truly one of the greats. RIP, Paul.
Few from Hollywood [while he shunned that lifestyle] will leave a legacy such as his. Thank you Mr. Newman. Ya done good.
In the end, only kindness matters.
“Sexiness wears thin after a while and beauty fades, but to be married to a man who makes you laugh every day, ah, now that’s a real treat.”
