John McCain was very lucky that he decided to show up for the first presidential debate in Oxford, Miss., Friday night. Because he gave one of his strongest debate performances ever.
While Barack Obama repeatedly tried to link McCain to the very unpopular George W. Bush, Bushs name will not be on the ballot in November and McCains will.
And McCain not only found a central theme but hit on it repeatedly. Obama is inexperienced, naive, and just doesnt understand things, McCain said.
Sure, McCain is a pretty old guy for a presidential candidate, but he showed the old guy did not mind mixing it up. He stood behind a lectern for 90 minutes without a break you try that when you are 72 and he not only gave as good as he got, he seemed to relish it more.
At least twice after sharp attacks by McCain, Obama seemed to look to moderator Jim Lehrer for help, saying to Lehrer, Lets move on.

Did you notice that McCain called Obama the most liberal member of the US Senate? It stung Obama into a momentary loss of words. He didn't even attempt to deny it.
Did anyone else read the comments? Man, the lib Dimturds are out in force tonight! Although most of them sound as if they are in middle school.
"Show me just what Mohammed brought that was new, and there you will find things only evil and inhuman, such as his command to spread by the sword the faith he preached." - Manuel II Palelologus
I'm glad he mentioned that. I was talking with someone last night about the fact that John McCain's body has endured such trauma that he is very likely in pain a considerable amount of the time, although he doesn't show it.
I really wish they would have the candidates seated at a table or something.
Let's get Kissinger in a McCain ad! Something along the lines of, "Hi, I'm Henry Kissinger. In the first presidential debate, Obama said that I agreed with him about the next president negotiating with Ahmadinejad. That is totally wrong and I would not recommend the next President of the United States engage in talks with Iran at the Presidential level. McCain is right. Obama is wrong. Help protect America, vote McCain."
Someone give me some youtube links! :) I wanna see this for myself.
“...I think people who had reservations about McCain’s age, temperament and ability to perform had their doubts laid to rest...”
Yes, I agree. He did a good job, there is still room for improvement but now a benchmark exists against which his assistants can mold preparations around for the next debate. (I doubt Senator McCain has “handlers”.) It is truly astounding, particularly when we realize what this 72 year old man had been doing the last three days, too. Debating can be exhausting.
G0, JOHNNY, GO!!
“Elderly people can be bright and vigorous”.
...yes they can! Besides the fact that 72 isn’t elderly IMO. My mother in law is 85. Looks 65. Drinks 3-4 bourbons a night. Never ate sweets in her life, just veggies and meat. She too could’ve stood there for 1-1/2 hours. She does it in the kitchen all the time.
It’s painful to say but Lehrer did a good job as the moderator. He encouraged both of them them to make their remarks directly to each other. He also would ask a question and sit back and let them go at it.
The dinosaur media is calling the debate a draw ... no clear winner
This must mean McCain whipped Hussein’s arse
Yes, I noticed. Everyone is talking about the bracelet but those closing statements made by Obama were stupid and his biggest mistake of the night. That kind of arrogant, anti-American tripe will secure him votes from America-haters but I am going to put my money on there being far more who love America than hate it.
I was EXTREMELY disappointed that McCain let Barry LIE and blame Bush and capitalism for the bailout mess, and did not make any reference to the Community Reinvestment Act, or mention Bush’s attempt at reform in 2003, blocked by the RATS, or mention his own reform legislation in 2005.
I had hope that McCain would pick up on Obamas comment and tear him another new one.
Did anyone else notice Obamas remark?
McCain should have said--- "You keep saying Europe Europe Europe. I say America America America.
“Did you notice that McCain called Obama the most liberal member of the US Senate? It stung Obama into a momentary loss of words. He didn’t even attempt to deny it.”
He blamed Bush for his liberal voting record. Amazing.
There were many such missed opportunities. When Baraq Hussein (peace be upon him) brought up McCain's connections with lobbyists, McCain should have pointed out that Biden's son is a lobbyist (in retirement for the duration of the campaign).
McCain should have dropped the Bomb --
About Hussein getting the second most campaign donations from Fannie Mae
McCain should have said that he blames Wall St but he also blames Federal Government such as Fannie Mae and Freddy which was packed with Democrat operatives.
Same as Reverent Wright is in retirement until after the campaign
