The only question to which Boehner is likely to get an honest answer from Pelosi is, “Madam Speaker, when and where do you want the Republicans to begin slitting their wrists?”

All congressional Republicans must get behind this proposal and oppose the Bush-0bama $700 Billion Bailout. Senator McCain should use the debate tonight to sell this alternative to the American people.

If Republicans, lead by Senator McCain, show a united front, they can get this passed and thwart the nationalization of investment risk.

Thanks for the post. To me this is so much more constructive than just saying no to any plan. My only fear is that the grassroots Rublications (read most Freepers) will continue to resist this and we will either get no deal or a deal that has all kinds of Dem pork in it (like ACORN). I will be very interested in hearing the debate tonight!

Yep, if the Democrats inisit upon tying a millstone around someone’s neck, let it be their own.

Look at these are newly proposed “safeguards” . Limiting taxpayer exposure to unsound mortgages? Auditing failed companies to make sure their books aren't cooked? Guarantee taxpayers don’t pay salaries/bonuses for Wall Street execs? Review credit rating agencies to make sure they’re honest/competent?
I really wish I could feel better about this but…

This only exposes the utter, complete contempt & disregard with which our government has viewed us. It’s nearly incomprehensible that these are “new” ideas.

And these are the people who want to reinvent our health care system?

Okay, I'm not one with a strong grasp on economics, maybe someone can explain this to me:

I hear folks talking about rescuing people who took out irresponsible mortgages. How would this address that issue (hopefully, it won't)?

There are people who are surrounded by bigots
and know it is wrong, but are afraid to be vocal against it.
These people are going to pull the lever for Obama
and they are not being polled.

Thanks for posting this! I'm very happy to see that the House Republicans are acctively working to solve this problem. It's one thing to just say no...it's quite another to say no and propose what you think must be done.

Well done John McCain. Well done Leader Boehner and House GOP!!

Oh my gosh, have you been listening to Rush? Rush said that they let Barry take command at the meeting and he was a complete disaster! That's why he ran out the back door and then appeared on Fox News to act like he was in control of the situation. Talk about “take your kid to work day!” The Dems wanted to brag that Barry was the savior of the meeting. Good luck with that.

It is interesting but not surprising that this is not getting out in the media. Reagan always went directly to the American people and that is what he should do during these debates.

The Palin pick got me to support McCain but going against the Dems and this $700B tax payer Wall Street bailout will get me to “fight for him.”

Paulson has to go. I know Bush hired him to get Wall Street cred ... but seriously, how much cred does a guy have if he's the former CEO of one of the first companies to go under in all of this. He certainly had no conservative principles in mind when he brought this forward. He has not served the president well. He has not served the country well. He seems to have served democrats and Obama in all of this. He HAS to go.

Wall Street – Not Taxpayers – Should Fund the Recovery
//////////////
x ACT Lee

McCain can win the election this week if he strangles this bailout and saves US 700 billion dollars. Get Palin out there too for Gods Sake.

Kill the Bailout and Shoot it in the head.
The Dow was in much worse shape during the 2000-02, when it went down 36 percent. Today its 24 percent down from its high.

It is another Y2K scare again.

The wallstreet thieves want US to bail them and their politician out of....JAIL. Spend $700 billion, 5 percent of our gross domestic product? no never.

Take your money before the banks do!

There are some good ideas in the Republican House plan, but of course they’ll never get the Dems to go along with most of this. They might get some concessions, but the eventual plan is going to be a disaster.

In addition to costing whatever it ends up costing, the eventual bailout (excuse me, “rescue plan”) will leave us with a multitude of new regulations along with new bureaucracies to enforce this regulation (er.. “oversite”), and will add even more moral hazard and otherwise perpetuate the banking cartel that brought us this mess.

Sometimes, the smartest thing to do, is nothing. This is one of those times.
