McCain departing shortly for debate...
(Excerpt) Read more at cnn.com ...
Mccain, you promised you’d name names.
Tonite I want to hear the names that created this mess.
I think you are right, Obama’s head is spinning and the media doesn’t know tactics from capitulation.
And of course YOU know it all.
McCain said he was suspending his campaign to work on this crisis. If he goes to the debate while the Senate is still debating this, it will look like the whole thing was a cynical political ploy.
Quite frankly it is really looking like it was.
So, IMHO this is a STUPID MOVE!
we can only hope that mccain comes out swinging and swinging hard...keep obama on the ropes stammering....hopefully all those sitting on the fence then would fall to the mccain side....
” ... who wants to hear about foreign affairs tonight? a president needs to be able to talk about the issues as hand—without preparation... can Obama do that? uh, uh, um... “
Right. If the suggestion is too strident, though, McCain would look like he’s ducking foreign affairs. He could ask for a longer double header as an option — both topics.
“Why? Did McCain ever say he wasnt going to debate?
I think he can go, spend 90 minutes at the debate and get back to DC.”
Because there are hours and hours of daily preparation involved, especially the week before the debate. It isn’t just a “fly in do the debate and leave” kind of thing if you’re trying to win the presidency in a tight race.
Also, McCain also has now personally witnessed barry getting ruffled and shouting if reports of their meeting at the White House are to be believed. Now he knows some of barry's buttons. Maybe he can get barry flustered enough to do something rash by punching those buttons at the debate.
I just hope McCain is well rested though. Maybe he should take some melatonin while he flies?
That's what it means. This from Politico:
McCain had previously said that he would suspend his campaign until an agreement was reached on the administration's $700 billion mortgage proposal.
No such agreement has been reached, but Republicans said the standoff was hurting McCain's campaign, and that he would look terrible if he didn't attend the nationally televised, eagerly anticipated debate while Sen. Barack Obama (D-Ill.) was ready to go onstage.
I think you need to clean your cat box. Something's smelling a little stinky.
He should have offered to send Palin.
“Tonite I want to hear the names that created this mess.”
It would devastate the DNC. But here’s the dirty little secret. Some republicans have a few table scraps as well — just enough that the rats can keep a muzzle on the RNC leadership. I think it will take 527s to get the truth out.
McCain should say, “I’m flattered that you thought it would take you a week of rehearsals and role playing to face me in a debate.” How about a Town Hall meeting? The people deserve more than a rehearsed media event.
Sometime it seems as if that is so but it's really not the case. Ronald Reagan took the higher road and won two elections and and successfully guided much of agenda into law. George W. Bush took the higher road and won two elections and likewise managed to pass much of his agenda. If that's not winning in politics, then I don't know what is.
I agree. McCain told the American public that getting a deal was so important that he was canceling his campaign and going to Washington to solve this crisis. Now he leaves with no deal in place and without even stating his position on the proposed deal. Is he for the president's plan or for the proposal of the house republicans. No one knows. All we know for sure is that he flip flopped on his promise not to attend the debate. Newt Gingrich, Dick Morris, Ann Coulter and Sean Hannity called his promise to skip the debate brilliant last night. Wonder how they'll spin this political stunt today.
I expect the Democrats to treat A President McCain the same way they have treated President Bush, and I believe McCain has a mean streak. So I don’t see him trying to placate the Dems to any great extent.
Um, where does it look like I’m giving McCain orders on what he “ought” to do?
And btw the Senate isn’t debating anything since there wont be any votes on it today.
McCain goes back, after being asked, and fulfills his role as a U.S. Senator. Wow what a STUPID STUNT!!!
Maybe he needs to get on the horn with P-Marlowe, because he has this all figured out.
I agree. I want him to come out on the offensive, naming names, and reminding Obama that he too is a Senator and he is NOT doing the job he currently holds.
