According to the President of the Debates Commission, it would not be legal to have a debate if McCain doesn't show. It would be considered an illegal campaign contribution for Obama. View the video at the source link. It is hard to believe both campaigns weren't already aware of this, and so it is interesting to see how they've played it.

They could invite the others...Ralph Nader and Cynthia McKinney. Then it would be legal.

Issue one: Foreign policy: Iran as a threat
May 18, 2008: Iran, Cuba, Venezuela, these countries are tiny compared to the Soviet Union. They don't pose a serious threat to us. ...they spend 1/100th of what we spend on the military. I mean, if Iran ever tried to pose a serious threat to us, they wouldn't stand a chance.
May 20, 2008: Iran is a grave threat. It has an illicit nuclear program. It supports terrorism across the regions and militias in Iraq. It threatens Israel's existence. It denies the Holocaust.

Isn’t it hilarious that the all knowing media is just learning this hours before the NON-Debate?
I’ll bet they wait another few hours and then take their lead from Dodd and Reid and blame McCain.

I'm sure the country will call Obama if they need HIM.
Right now the country needs John McCain.
The last thing this country needs is Obama.
BTW don't a lot of people think that Nero was THE Anti-Christ? Or was he just a foreshadow of Obama?
AP radio news reporting McCain will attend the debate tonight.
I hope McCain is in the right frame of mind — aggressive without appearing out of control.
He needs to lay this proposed $700 billion bailout right on Obama’s lap.
I hope he wipes the floor with Barack Obama.
