McCain Stays Put in Washington on Friday(likely skipping the debate?)
The Corner ^

Posted on 09/25/2008 8:07:23 PM PDT by maccaca

From the McCain campaign tonight:

To address our current financial crisis, John McCain suspended his campaign and returned to Washington, D.C., today to help build a bipartisan consensus for a proposal that would protect the American taxpayer.

Despite today's news reports, there never existed a "deal," but merely a proposal offered by a small, select group of Members of Congress. As of right now, there exists only a series of principles, including greater oversight and measures to address CEO pay. However, these principles do not enjoy a consensus in Congress.

At today's cabinet meeting, John McCain did not attack any proposal or endorse any plan. John McCain simply urged that for any proposal to enjoy the confidence of the American people, stressing that all sides would have to cooperate and build a bipartisan consensus for a solution that protects taxpayers.

However, the Democrats allowed Senator Obama to run their side of the meeting. That did not work as the meeting quickly devolved into a contentious shouting match that did not seek to craft a bipartisan solution.

At this moment, the plan that has been put forth by the Administration does not enjoy the confidence of the American people as it will not protect that taxpayers and will sacrifice Main Street in favor of Wall Street.

The bottom line is that as of tonight, there are not enough Republican or Democrat votes for the current plan. However, we are still optimistic that a bipartisan solution will be found. Republicans and Democrats want a deal that will protect the taxpayers.

Tomorrow, John McCain will return to Capitol Hill where he will work with all sides to build a bipartisan solution that protects taxpayers and keeps Americans in their homes.

So, who was yelling at BO? Is that the reason in his press conferences that he stated he had learned the injecting presidential politics into delicate negotiations does not work?

What a cry baby...

Sounds to me like John McCain will NOT be attending any debate tomorrow night.

McCain may skip the debate. The work of saving America is more important than an abstract discussion about foreign policy.

I wrote in another thread that I think McCain just maneuvered Obama into a huge mistake. The bail out is unpopular in the country and now OBAMA is identified with it, McCain is not.

Who's Bush's third term now?

Good. This puts the spotlight on the moron BO to ask what he's doing to help the country or prep for a debate. Someone is finally getting through to McCain to fight with brass knucks.

With 66% of Americans against the Wall St. bailout as conjured up by the Senators and Paulson, I’d say that being blamed for its failure is not a bad thing. The Dems are just apoplectic over this, of course, but they, like the Muslims, always are.
By the way, who thought that a debate on Friday night during high school football season was a good idea? Virtually no one in Texas will be watching. We have our priorities.

McCain has been asking Obama to debate at townhalls all summer. Now that there is a crisis that needs attending to, Obama and the press are crying about McCain going to Washington.

After discussing the situation with a long time democrat at work today, I would have to agree. He thinks that it shows that McCain truly is “Country First” while Obama is “Campaign First”. He said it really bothers him, but that he really has respect for McCain for doing this.

Here's what's going to happen: McCain will say nothing about the debate tomorrow, he just won't show up. At 9:00, he'll hold a press conference to announce the new plan which will take the form of a loan/insurance program but not a bailout with the Fed buying a $trillion worth of mortgages.

Obama is gonna get punked, and there isn't a damn thing he can do about it. McCain is so far inside Obama's OODA Loop that bambi doesn't know "wether to defecate or wind his watch". McCain just made Obama his bitch.

Fascinating times we live in.

From the statement: “Tomorrow, John McCain will return to Capitol Hill where he will work with all sides to build a bipartisan solution that protects taxpayers and keeps Americans in their homes.”

I wish it left off: “and keeps Americans in their homes.” That is a part that needs to GO down the toilet! Folks who are in homes they can’t pay for need to go back to renting an apartment until they can get a loan on a home they can afford to pay back.
