The Baltimore Examiner and The Washington (D.C.) Examiner announced Wednesday early editorial endorsements for the McCain-Palin ticket. They joined the New York Post in that, with the Seattle Times endorsing Obama.
National security and leadership potential were the main factors in the decision. The papers cite leadership, public service, and toughness among Senator Mccains strengths. The next president must have the hard-earned experience and quality of character to win the war abroad, according to the endorsement.
Gov. Palin only adds to the toughness of her maverick running-mate, according to the papers. Palin has the instincts, temperament and backbone necessary to restore Republican Party ideals to national politics. She is deemed ready and willing to dispose of government waste.
Amid the praise, though, is a warning to the Republican ticket, urging McCain to mind his legendary temper in order to work effectively with his cabinet and Congress. Similarly, Palin is advised to be a quick learner in managing national and international affairs.
E&P once again will be charting all newspaper endorsements. Please alert us to any and all, c/o Editor Greg Mitchell, at gmitchell@editorandpublisher.com.

Glad to see some papers stepping up.
total paid circulation?
San Francisco Examiner for McCain/Palin.
The Dallas Morning News will end up endorsing McCain/Palin.
It’s their usual modus operendi.
They trash the Republicans all year and then endorse them in a 3 inch editorial.

total circulation 260,000
Apparently the Examiner Newspapers are similar to Metro newspapers that are distributed daily free of charge near mass transit locations in metropolitan areas.

I would bet that The Philadelphia Bulletin will endorse McCain/Palin.
The S.F. Examiner’s a funny newspaper - it’s free and the racks are usually cleaned out by 8:00 a.m. on Market Street - and you see people trying to GIVE the Chronicle away and people won’t take it.
I'm not gonna take you up on that bet! :-)
Yea! My niece works for the Baltimore Examiner. She’s a conservative, and the paper is moderate to conservative.
It’s free, but they have a pretty decent circulation. They make all their money from advertisers.
The Baltimore Examiner is only a few years old too.
This should be milked by the Maverick/Barracuda campaign for what it’s worth. Especially the SF Examiner endorsement, which most voters will consider shocking, even though it isn’t, really. The uninformed sheep who vote the way other sheep vote, will be persuaded, and that’s what it’s all about.
Our county, Weber County-UT, has a free little newspaper called “The Sentinel”. It’s really quite a conservative little paper! We get it in the mail, but it is also out on stands in supermarkets. It’s got articles on the “Constitution”, and other subjects pertaining to our country’s freedoms, etc.
It also has a lot of local news throughout the county, all the towns including Ogden City, etc. It even runs articles by nationwide conservative journalists and writers such as Walter Williams, as well as local conservative writers! I’ll look at my last copy, and see what their web address is, and post it. But someone could find it probably more quickly than I can do that! Perhaps some local Utah Freepers?
Maryland “Freak State” PING!
it’s a freebie, but if you ride the DC Metro, you will observe that it is widely read in the DC Metro area.
