The U.S. Senate race in Colorado has gotten even closer over the past month. The latest Rasmussen Reports telephone survey in the state now finds Democrat Mark Udall with a modest 46% to 44% edge over Republican Bob Schaffer.
In August, Udall led the race by a 48% to 41% margin. The gap has steadily decreased since Udalls biggest lead in mid-June. The two men are competing to replace retiring Republican Senator Wayne Allard.
Though his lead overall has slipped, Udall is still ahead 47% to 34% among unaffiliated voters. He also leads 50% to 39% among women. Schaffer has a 48% to 42% edge among men.
Udall is viewed favorably by 49% and unfavorably by 44%. Schaffers ratings are 45% favorable, 43% unfavorable.

This HAS to mean that McCain is close to a lead here, too.
"Show me just what Mohammed brought that was new, and there you will find things only evil and inhuman, such as his command to spread by the sword the faith he preached." - Manuel II Palelologus
In virtually every poll, Bob Schaffer has exceeded the early expectations of his candidacy. Will Sarah Palin be making a campaign appearance for him?
I just sent another contribution to Shaffer yesterday!
If Schaffer win’s, McCain definitely wins. If Schaffer is close to tied, then McCain should have a slight lead.
Schaffer’s race is a definite bellweather for this state.
This is the one state that concerns me. Others may be close, but this is the one earmarked as a concern back in 2004. Ohio’s not even close to being the swing state this one can be.
Ads running here stress energy and Udall’s record of voting against exploration and development. There have been some recently run by an independent group hitting Udall for his opposition to partial-birth abortion restrictions and parental notification. The ads I have seen run by Udall have been pretty wimpy and are aimed at painting Schaffer as being in the pocket of “big oil”. If Palin or McCain swing thru the state once or twice (or more) before November the GOP has an excellent chance of retaining the seat. Since Colorado is a swing state I expect we will be seeing one or both of them.
Even though Bush carried Colorado handily in 2004, Democrat Ken Salazar also won.
So even if Democrat Udall wins, it's still likely McCain will win.
Salazar was a superior campaigner, Coors was an absolutely horrible recruitment. Money and no political talent still won’t win you a seat if you’re a Republican against a more talented rodent. Schaffer has the talent, but still needs more money.
Udull Udall should NOT be in the SENATE he’d be bad for Colorado!!!
Oh I LOVE this, I am going down to NorthPark next week and dial til my fingers bleed!
Wow, Udall’s negatives higher than Shaffer. The snot-nosed elitist from Boulder wants to take away the secret ballot from working stiffs like me.
Shaffer needs to get his positives up.....highlight how he kept his word on term limits and retired from the House on schedule. That’s aguy who takes reform seriously.
Bob Schaffer is back after his wife’s surgery.
Thanks for the update, I did not know.
The facts on the ground are not reflected in the polls. Bob Schaffer is much stronger than previous Republicans, and he is very good in representing our side. The 527 ads have also had an impact. No matter what the polls say, election day should break for Schaffer.
Sarah Palin has awakened the GOP base in CO. Unless McCain blows it, he will win.
GOP-present a plan. balanced budget, reduced spending, less tax, it wins, but you have to put forth more than platitudes, everyone wants these things
This race is must win. 2 Udalls in the senate? No thank you.

So True...
Best news I heard all day!
Either this is an outlier, or McCain is doing better in Colorado than most polls are showing. Bradley effect?
Salazar also campaigned as a moderate. He basically lied his way into office.
