WASHINGTON -- With extraordinary stakes on the line, President Bush has invited both presidential candidates and the leaders of the House and Senate to the White House on Thursday in hopes of securing a bill to rescue the economy.
Bush took the unusual step Wednesday night of calling Democratic Sen. Barack Obama directly to invite him to the meeting, White House press secretary Dana Perino said. An Obama spokesman said the senator would attend. The White House has also invited Republican Sen. John McCain.
Perino said the goal of the session is to make progress -- fast -- on a bipartisan solution to the biggest economic crisis in decades.
She said the call between Bush and Obama lasted several minutes and was "a good conversation."
Obama spokesman Bill Burton said the Democratic presidential contender "will continue to work in a bipartisan spirit and do whatever is necessary to come up with a final solution."
The move by Bush came just a short time before he was to address the nation about the financial crisis.
Details of the meeting were still being determined

It took the President calling him to get his ass to Washington. What an arrogant a-hole.
Call me if you need me. Bush should have just left him hanging. BO hates Bush, speaks disparagingly of him every day. Why would Obama answer this call? Obama is for himself, not the people.
Thanks Bush for letting Obama off the hook.

Exactly. Why help this guy save face?

they are calling mccain the coward—waving the yellow flag to cancel the debates because he fears facing obama. They are saying that a cancellation will cause mississippi to go obama cuz of the financial hit dealt to the university of mississippi, the debates’ host. They are saying mccain is coldly manipulative, and that obama needs to go to keep all those EVIL pubbies in line....

NcCain said country first, party second. Obama’s actions say Obama first, Party second, money donations third, arrogance fourth, and country fifth

I’m shaking I’m so pi**ed. Read that paragraph. Does it in ANYWAY resemble what we all know happened today???
Obama REFUSED to go to DC, even after McCain suggested they both go. ONLY McCain felt it was important enough to suspend his campaigning. Harry Reid said NEITHER was needed.
And the Bush invite came at the last minute, AFTER McCain had announced his plans, and Obama had refused to go.
And it sure didn’t take the scum in the MSM to start spinning this for Barry.
The way this is written it sounds like Bush needed Barry & McCain invite was an afterthought.
Bush is an idiot. Bush calls Obama? Why? Let me state that there is only $135 billion available in the credit markets. Normally over $2 trillion. Our capital, the bloodline of american business has been drained by a corrupt congress that mandated loans to unworthy home purchasers. At the same time the FDIC told local banks to quiet loaning money to local small business. All capital must flow to the mandate of congress. The money flowed to the top where it was stolen by crooks. False appraisals, greedy CEOs and pyramid schemes have bankrupted america. The bailout must proceed in order to resume the flow of capital. The crooks must be prosecuted and that means thousands of indictments extending all the way to the minions of the FDIC that helped cut off the flow of capital to small business. Bush wants Obama to participate in a conference at the White House? Why? He is a member of the party that caused this crisis. Thank you Mr. Bush for elevating him to a position of authority.
“Exactly. Why help this guy save face?”
I don’t think this helps Obama. He’s going to Washington, like McCain, but he had to be asked specifically by the President to be there.
And Obama shouldn’t be allowed to get away with voting present on this one. He needs to be on the record, just like McCain undoubtedly will be.
Mr. Obama plans to begin debate camp on Tuesday with a tight circle of advisers at a site in the Tampa Bay area of Florida, his aides say, with a prominent Democratic lawyer, Greg Craig, playing the part of Mr. McCain in mock debates.

If you saw Obama this afternoon, your blood must have boiled. So Presidential, as if he were already in the WH, American flags in the background, subservient reporters in front begging for his attention. The arrogance was unbelievable. Here’s a jerk who can’t find his way to the nearest men’s room, and certainly has nothing substantive to suggest about the monetary crisis without 300 advisers telling him what to say, yet he wants to continue to run around, politics as usual. Meanwhile, McCain’s invisible, but he’s working behind the scenes to clean up the mess asap. (Obama’s pay grade is way above that, evidently.)
Oboma is going to steal every ideal Bush and McCain say as his ideals when he walks out. Can see it now..
I understand what you are saying justkate.
This is a prime example of Washington DC politics and the liberal media that supports it.
