With extraordinary stakes on the line, President Bush has invited both presidential candidates and the leaders of the House and Senate to the White House on Thursday in hopes of securing a bill to rescue the economy.
Bush took the unusual step Wednesday night of calling Democratic Sen. Barack Obama directly to invite him to the meeting, White House press secretary Dana Perino said. An Obama spokesman said the senator would attend. The White House has also invited Republican Sen. John McCain

BWaaaa haa haa haa haa!!!!!!!! OMG!!!!!!!! McCain rides in to save the day!!!!!!!! ROFLMAO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
How long do you thin this headline will last? Man this is getting better by the minute.
"Show me just what Mohammed brought that was new, and there you will find things only evil and inhuman, such as his command to spread by the sword the faith he preached." - Manuel II Palelologus
Oops; missed the part that Obama did agree. Interesting...
I think Bush is doing the right thing. One of the two candidates will have to oversee what is decided, so why not involve them. It also places responsibility on Obama to actually be part of a solution, one that he can’t just vote “present” for.
Does this mean Obama is Mccain and Bushs _itch?
Glad the WH finally got it right because there is an article on here after McCain called for the meeting that the press secretary said they didn’t know if it would happen. Looks like Bush is following McCain as well as Obama.
"Call me if you need me"
COUNTRY FIRST
Be aware, the libs are floating a rumor that it was actually The Obama’s idea to drop everything and go to DC, and McCain hijacked it, then “challenged” The Obama to follow him.
The spin is generating its own magnetic field.
Love the headline!
I think David Axelrod just peed his pants.
Bwahahahahaha!
since O will miss a day of study for his big test on Friday night at the debates, will he now agree to postpone?
Obama is not a leader. His supposed morning phone call was probably a return call to McCain who called first. I believe the McCain campaign was busy planning their response over the last 2 days—Obama is just “present”.
Yup. I had the same discussion with co-workers today, defending McCain’s move. My feeling is that no matter who wins, it is crucial that Congress and Bush come up with a plan that the next President can accept. Say the Congress did something that McCain decides he can’t agree with—that by itself would wreak havoc on the financial markets and would undermine any recovery/rescue/bailout...same if (God forbid) Obama were to disagree with the plan. The public is, so far, strongly opposed to the idea of a bailout generally speaking, and about 49% against Paulson’s plan (or what they know about it, which frankly, is probably next to nothing). That means there is a good likelihood that without the agreement of both candidates on the actual final plan, anything that comes out has a good chance to turn into a political disaster as well as an economic one.
McCain’s suggestion was not just politically smart, it was the right thing to do and Bush is right to do it. Big score for McCain...really big, because he’s just shown who the real adult is in this election.
Heh.
Bambi can’t possibly agree with a Republican let alone Bush on ANYTING, otherwise he’d lose what’s left of his rabid BDS base.
Look what’s been peeled away already: the angry Hillary voters, bitter clingers and what remains of the party as far as truly sane people go...
Lady Rothschilde exclaimed bambi, Harry Reid and Nancy Pelosi had simply taken the party too far to the left.
Dick Morris was on O’Reilly calling this a “brilliant” move by McCain. He will ride in on the white horse (no, not going there...) - assemble a coalition of Bush and the Republicans who wills support a modified bailout bill, and get credit for “saving the country”.
Meanwhile ZerObama is out campaigning as a fulltime US Senator and saying “if you need me, give me a call”.
Even if it was that way, GREAT, BRILLIANT on McCAin’s part!
