The crisis on Wall Street has New Yorkers alarmed. But it's nothing compared to the levels of anxiety those living in the Windy City feel each day.
Chicago's rising unemployment rate, expensive gas, high population density and relatively poor air quality create a perfect storm of stress, according to measures we used to calculate the country's anxiety hot spots.

But I thought that Chicago was organized into a Utopia by a community organizer how can this be?
Even dead Chicagoans are so anxious they get up to cast their vote every 4 years.
It also tops the list of most nanny-state government. Gee, with Da Mayor looking out for all of us city dwellers, you’d think we’d all be relaxed/ sarc.
Let's see, Kilpatrick/Granholm, Holywood crowd and gay pride kooks. I would be stressed out too if I had to live near those people.
Detroit, Mich., Los Angeles, Calif., and San Francisco, Calif., ranked third, fourth and fifth, respectively.
LOL..all run by leftists and liberals!
Having lived in the Chicago area for 45 years I have never heard anyone here say they live in stressful place.

Nuff said,
all Lib Hell Holes.
Now you know how I feel living in LA
Try New Orleans or Galveston if you want to find stressful living in a city...
No question about that, I agree
I found Miami to be surprisingly stressful because of the traffic on the Palmetto and Dolphin.
May God be with you!
Stressed out? Chicago? What the hell are they talking about? Why there is no stress here everything is wonderful here!!! We don’t worry about hundreds of gang killings, areas which compare with Iraq, life is great!!!! HOW dare they claim we live under stress!!!!
Actually the biggest stress I feel is worrying that the Zero will win, the Bears will lose and the White Sox collapse. These claims rating life in the cities are generally goofy and this is no exception.
Chicago? Stressful?
What are they on???
1) Big diversified economy means anybody can get a job and your childeren don't have to leave town to follow their dreams.
2) Expensive gas. True, but it has great public transportation and it's easy to get around normally. Some car commutes can be tough.
3) High population density. This is a major, lively city and people like living here. Would it be better to be Detroit?
4)In 45 years maybe there have been 4 days when I could perceive the smog, and that wasn't a big deal.
I was born and raised in Miami. Left in ‘84.
Moved to Raleigh, my BP dropped 10 points .
When a car backfires I don’t go prone anymore. :)
I miss sailing in the Keys and nothing else.
Boston......ever see how we drive up here?? Just a daily commute is a combat zone.
Friend from Miami who went to college at Loyola in Chicago said that Chicago was much better because
1) you could go outside and not get pulverized by the weather
2) Chicago has a real downtown.
3) You don't have to drive everywhere, so you could do the bars and take the El home.
