John McCain announced that he will suspend his presidential campaign on Thursday to return to Washington to help with bailout negotiations. He urged his opponent Barack Obama to do the same.

The Arizona senator also asked the Presidential Debate Commission to postpone Friday’s scheduled debate with Obama so that he can work on the financial crisis bailout plan now on Capitol Hill.

“America this week faces an historic crisis in our financial system. We must pass legislation to address this crisis. If we do not, credit will dry up, with devastating consequences for our economy. People will no longer be able to buy homes and their life savings will be at stake. Businesses will not have enough money to pay their employees. If we do not act, ever corner of our country will be impacted. We cannot allow this to happen,” McCain said.

I called my first HS game in 2002. The local HS Football team got beat 40-0 and never even got a first down. But The boss said I did “damn good”. Considering that there was no excitement in that game at all. I figured out “hey, I am pretty good at this”

Thats is another reason I love Sarah Palin. She started out in the same business :)

This is not a stall. The economic debate is OVER.

Bush and McCain saw this coming years ago and all efforts to stop it were blocked by Dems. That’s all that needs to be said. It’s unspinnable. McCain also pushed for a surge that was hampered by Dems so THAT debate is also over.

Obama should thank his God that the debate may be postponed.

McCain should point out how Ding Dong isn’t taking the financial situation seriously, can’t be trusted to set the correct priorities, can’t even be trusted to perform his senatorial duties when needed and will have no idea of the formulation of whatever congressional plan from the ground up will be, in addtion to having no concept of Country First.

McCain should fire with both barrels.

McCain is doing the right thing. I’m glad he seized the high ground before Obama did.

The country is in crisis. To continue partisan politics as if it isn’t is not a good idea.

Egoistic. Fiddling while Rome burns!

If that were to happen, no need for an election. Nobama would have to concede the election to McCain.

Letterman is mercilessly dumping on McCain:
Earlier in the show, Dave kept saying, "You don't suspend your campaign. This doesn't smell right. This isn't the way a tested hero behaves." And he joked: "I think someone's putting something in his metamucil."
"He can't run the campaign because the economy is cratering? Fine, put in your second string quarterback, Sara Palin. Where is she?"
"What are you going to do if you're elected and things get tough? Suspend being president? We've got a guy like that now!"

Look for Dingy Harry to arrange for a lot of free time on Friday afternoon to make it look like McCain could have made the debate.

Actually I haven’t heard a thing about Biden or Obama going back to Washington to help deal with the problem. The only reason Obama wants to go forward with the debates is because the polls show him in the lead and he wants to try and extend that lead.

Hopefully people will finally see the true Obama, a person who is only concerned with himself and not what’s best for the country.

Hard to say. I feel if Wall Street is as bad as they say right now, the voters will go with the safer pick.

I know that the party in power should get hurt, but America will elect the proven person. That is McCain. This is not 1992 or 1980 where the economy was just bad, or 1932 where Hoover would not do anything after 1929.

If Obama doesn’t watch out, his drive to increase those poll numbers my just drop him off a cliff. Seriously. His attitude is that of a pompous ass, and he just keeps going...

If they insist on having the debates, McCain should do it via satellite! He can tell the nation that he is sorry that he couldn't be there in person, but he had to be in Washington DC to do his job!

If Obama refuses that, he will look even worse!

Also, IMHO, folks care more about this financial crisis than a debate. They want to know what is going to be done to curtail this crisis, not prepared, canned rhetoric on how we can believe in something "changing."

______________________________________________________ That would stick out like a sore thumb with the voters. Would turn on him big time. McCain takes the lead for sure and probably gains 20 points.
