The latest TODAY Show/NBC/Mason-Dixon poll has McCain ahead in the Old Dominion overall by three points, 47 to 44 percent.
The "Today Show" reports that Barack Obama is ahead in Northern Virginia by a 55-37 margin, and McCain leads the crucial Hampton Roads area by 48-44. Just yesterday, the latest Washington Post/ABC News poll put Obama ahead in the state overall by three points.
McCain could like the election up today if he came out and said “NO MORE BAILOUTS.”
If he wants to lead the country this is the best opportunity he will ever get.

I'm surprised that McCain's lead in Tidewater isn't greater than this with all the military there. Does anyone have the sense that Osama may do better with the military than most dems in the past because of multiple deployments and the perception that McCain has not been a veterans' champion?
That’s good. Mason-Dixon polls were almost the most accurate in the 2004 state-level polling.
I’m conflicted between my own desire of opposing a bailout and my faith in the intelligence of American electorate. If McCain came out opposed the bailout and the fallout from these giants toppling is great, Americans might blame McCain for not doing more. He should see where he can deregulate and let these companies sort this mess out.
Despite a couple of rigged national polls, McCain has now moved ahead in VA, NH, and MI. That’s ball game, if he holds these three, because he WILL get OH and FL. So he can afford to lose NM and CO.
Iron Munro—If you think the Wall Street and sub-Prime messes can be fixed without government help you are kidding yourself. This is little different than what Roosevelt did to get us out of the Depression. It’s what Trust Busting and Teapot Dome was all about. It is what the government bailout of S&L industry was all about.
In my view unfettered capitalism is at least as much a threat to life, liberty and pursuit of happiness as an unfettered government managing the economy. The Wall Street and mortgage lending crowd brought this on themselves due to their greed.
Your outrage should be directed at the people who perpetrated the frauds, scams and bad behavior.

I didn't say that it could be remedied without government help.
There is action the government can make other than this bailout that hands over $700 billion or $1 trillion to a non-elected bureaucrat to parcel out with no strings attached, no oversight, no review permitted and no challenges allowed.
Paulson and Bernenke are part of the problem - why would we trust them to be impartial with that kind of money and authority?
We don't give our president that kind of cash to disburse with such a free hand. Why would it be a good idea to give it to Treasury Secretary Henry Paulson?
If this is such a great deal for taxpayers why is there such a rush to push the plan through without proper review and without considering alternatives? The rush to push this through reminds me of the scam the President and congress tried to pull with the Shamnesty hoax.
My outrage is directed at the government officials who started and perpetuated the abuse of the financial industry to implement their PC agenda and the greedy people in the industry who were only too happy to join in on the scam.
Some politicians are much more responsible than others but culpability goes from the Senate to the House all the way to the Oval Office and on to the Fed and Treasury.
I was polled tonight. Lots of personal questions, that’s for sure. I hope they don’t send the FBI to my house!
