Well, the good news first. After installing three very sweet machines and new networking equipment, FR is geared up for the onslaught of traffic we anticipate during this election cycle. All that is left is some tuning and bringing online another database server.
The bad news: I goofed horribly this morning and wiped the articles table, a file that stores crucial information for displaying articles.
Fortunately, the data is backed up. I'm working on restoring it, but it may possibly take the rest of the day to bring it back fully.
So don't touch that dial!
UPDATE: Restored a couple million old articles. Still working on the most recent, which need to be restored from incremental backups (very slow!)
TW Cable has been out for nearly an hour and no response from them as to why....
Yeah. I lost 73,286 of the little buggers, myself...
You told.
No I am not joking. I really am afraid to try it.
Chicken.
“Millions of old articles on FR!? That’s damn a lot of articles posted on FR!”
I’ve posted 2,771 threads myself. And I’ve only been here 5 1/2 yrs.
Thanks JimRob...Raid City huh? Thanks for the hardware updates and the work you puor into FR. Get some sleep, dude.
HOLLY: I was in love once -- a Sinclair ZX-81. People said, "No, Holly, she's not for you." She was cheap, she was stupid and she wouldn't load -- well, not for me, anyway.
LISTER: What are you trying to say, Hol?
HOLLY: What I'm saying, Dave, is that it's better to have loved and to have lost than to listen to an album by Olivia Newton-John.
CAT: Why's that?
HOLLY: Anything's better than listening to an album by Olivia Newton- John.
Let's organize a $500 billion Federal government coffee bailout for John.
...........we have faith in you John *smiles*

now stop reading these answers to your post and get back to work
God bless you, take your time. And make the files obama proof if God forbids he gets elected.
LOL! I almost pinged this to all my FRiends, then BINGO!
I realized no one could get into their pings.
We're not addicted, are we?
There are no words to express how much I love and appreciate you and your Dad. May you have Divine intervention so that all goes quickly and smoothly. Time for all of us to anti-up for the new servers during the next Freepathon.
LOL Your image is a photo-shopped combo of what appears to be an IBM 360 main-frame computer input/printer station from the late 60s/early 70s. The background controls and indicators are a mock up of the S5W reactor & engineering plant controls from a nuclear submarine of the same era, from a Smithsonian exhibit a few years back.
The left panel (with the throttle wheels) is the SPCP (steam plant control panel); center is the RPCP (reactor plant control panel); the right panel is the EPCP (electric plant control panel). I know it well, as my watch station on 2 subs was the RPCP. Can't speak to the TV, but I never saw one in either the sub environment, or on the 360 computer floor where I once did duty.

Are you sure you're logged in?
Thanks, John.
Could someone please tell me how I can make a donation to FR? Thanks.
